What is a concept
paper?
 Refers to an academic or research paper
that is written with the primary purpose of
identifying and explaining an idea or
concept related to a particular scholarly
field or discipline before conducting a
research.
 May also be written to provide an
overview of a project by summarizing
what it’s about, its importance, and how
you intend to carry it out.
Concept paper may be classified into two:
Prospective
Retrospective

1. Cost and methodology should be reasonable.
2. The budget, methodology, and timeline should be clearly aligned.
3. Use statistics and figures when discussing the rationale for the project.
4. Use no more than five pages (single-spaced) excluding the cover page. Do not
overwhelm the readers with details.
5. Never request funding for planning the proposal.
6. Adjust your language to the intended readers. You may use technical terms if readers are
scholars and scientist. However, refrain from using jargon when your target readers are
lay persons.
Guidelines in writing a Concept Paper
7. Include the overview of the budget if it is required. If not, skip the budget section. In place of
this, you may simply include the type of support you may need such as personnel, travel and
communication, and equipment.
8. Be sure that the basic format details, such as page numbers, are incorporated.
9. Cite your references.

Determines the ways a writer can elucidate on a concept by definition, explication and clarification C. Understand the principles and uses of concept paper

What is a concept paper?  Refers to an academic or research paper that is written with the primary purpose of identifying and explaining an idea or concept related to a particular scholarly field or discipline before conducting a research.  May also be written to provide an overview of a project by summarizing what it’s about, its importance, and how you intend to carry it out.
  • 4. Concept paper may be classified into two: Prospective Retrospective
  • 5. Purposes of Concept paper 3. Used to pique the interest of the potential funding agencies 2. Helps determine whether a certain project is feasible or not 1. Serves as a foundation of the full proposal 4. Used to obtain informal feedback on the ideas prior to preparing the full proposal

Way of Explaining a Concept A method of explanation in which sentences, verses, quotes, or passages are taken away from a literary or academic work and then interpreted and explained in detailed way Entails the analysis of the concept by looking at the examples DEFINITION EXPLICATION CLARIFICATIO N A method of identifying a term and making its meaning clearer

Ways of Explaining a Concept DEFINITION Provide operational definition or how the term is used when applied in a specific context, or synonym or antonym Most common way of defining a term by giving the genus and differentia of the term or word Used to define a profound and abstract concepts by using analogy, metaphors, comparison and contrast, description, analysis, functions, etymology, and semantic origin FORMAL INFORMAL EXTENDED

  • 15. Preliminary Literature Review Provide a theoretical framework. This includes the theory that will guide you in the conduct of your research. Provide a brief synthesis of the reviewed literature and studies. Provide related studies that will help you in conducting the research or analyzing and discussing the data. Provide related literature that supports your topic.

  • 21. 1. Cost and methodology should be reasonable. 2. The budget, methodology, and timeline should be clearly aligned. 3. Use statistics and figures when discussing the rationale for the project. 4. Use no more than five pages (single-spaced) excluding the cover page. Do not overwhelm the readers with details. 5. Never request funding for planning the proposal. 6. Adjust your language to the intended readers. You may use technical terms if readers are scholars and scientist.
