3. Development of osteoarticular system in a child is
a complex process whether it is bony part or
the cartilagenous part.
It all starts from around 2nd month if intrauterine
life.
The rate of osteoarticular system in child in not
constant and it varies.
It is divided into two laps:
4. FIRST LAP =at age of 6-7 years where bone
growth rate increases .
Second Lap =at age of 13-16 years,structure
and bone shape is being formed
At age of 20-25 the further bone growth stops
5. THE epiphyseal and metaphyseal plates have a
good blood supply and due to which they the
the main targets of pathogens which occupy
these places and lead to the different types of
clinical manifestations.
Kyphosis and Lodosis are also seen in the early
bone development years
6.
7.
8. Joint development take place littlebit later
compared to Bone development itself.
At age of 2-3 years articular parts of bone are
showing increased rate of growth.
From 6-10 years the other constituinal parts of
joint are formed and it lasts upto age of 16 and
the joint mobility as well as strength increases
as child shows good physical intensity.
9.
10. The osteoarticular system in children are very
prone to trauma as well as infections
A persistant osteoarticular pain in children for a
long time can be suggestive of acute
lymphoblastic leukemia which is the most
common malignancy found in children.
11. Osteoarticular trauma in children is also seen
commonly in children but fortunately the
recover rate is quite good as osteoarticular
development is still going on in children but a
deformity can persist throug out of life.
12.
13. Osteoarticular infections can have a devastating
effect on children and depending upon the
localisation it can present as
osteoarthritis,osteomyelitis,septic arthritis.
Osteoarticular infections and its prognosis also
depend upon the route or the source of
infection.
