2. JUDAISM
Is the religion of the more than 14 million
Jews throughout the world.
Is the oldest of the world’s four biggest
monotheistic religions.
Is the ancient tradition of a relatively
small community of people originally
called Hebrews or Israelites.
3. TORAH
Is the primary document of Judaism.
Which means “teaching” is God’s revealed
instructions to the Jewish, People. It teaches
Jews how to act, think and even feel about life
and death.
It contains 613 commandments.
Also contains stories that teach us about God’s
relationship with the Jewish People.
4. BASIC BELIEFS
There is only one God who watched
over and cares for his people.
God loves and protects his people, but
also Roh’s people for their sins and
short comings.
People serve God by studying the
Torah and living by its teachings.
5. FOUNDERS
ABRAHAM
Is known to be the founder of
Judaism.
He founded the religion in Israel
about 400 years ago.
He is the father of the Jewish
people.
6. MOSES
Is regarded as the most important prophet in
Judaism.
He acted according to the request of God and
freed the Jews from the brutality and slavery
they were experiencing under the Pharaoh of
Egypt.
He was also God’s chosen one to receive the
Ten Commandments, which were given to him
in the form of a stone tablet.
7. MEZUZAH
Is found on doorposts in Jewish homes.
It is a little case, containing a tiny scroll.
The writing on the scroll is from the bible.
8. RITUAL
Some Jews follow strict dietary laws based on
passage from the Hebrew bible. These laws have
established what is Kosher, or acceptable, for Jews to
eat.
Kosher foods are those that conform to Jewish law.
This means no mixing of dairy and meat, no pork or
pork products and no shell fish.
The animal from which the meat is taken must have
been slaughtered in accordance with prescribed
Jewish ritual.
9. Holiday in Judaism
Passover (Pesach in Hebrew)
Is celebrated to commemorate
the liberation of the Children of
Israel who were led out of slavery
in Egypt by Moses.
10. Rosh Hashanah
Is the Jewish New
Year festival and
commemorates the
creation of the world.
11. YOM KIPPUR
Is the most sacred and
solemn day of the Jewish
year, brings the Days of
Repentance to a close.

Was the first place of worship for
Judaism
Is last remnant of the wall that
surrounded the temple.
20. SYMBOL OF JUDAISM
Magen David ( Shield of David)
Also known as the star of
David.
The symbol or emblem of the
Jewish people.
21. MENORAH
Is one of the oldest symbols of
the Jewish faith. It is a
candelabrum with seven candle
holders displayed in Jewish
synagogue.
22. 10 COMMANDMENTS
The Ten commandments are the first ten of the 613 commandments
given by God the Jewish people. They form the foundation of
Jewish ethics, behavior and responsibility.
1. I am the Lord thy god, who brought thee
out of the land Egypt, out of the house
of bondage.
2. Thou shall have no other gods, before
Me.
3. Thou shall not take the name of the Lord
thy God in Vain.
23. 4. Remember the Sabbath day to keep it
Holy.
5. Honor thy father and thy mother.
6. Thou shall not murder.
7. Thou shall not commit adultery.
8. Thou shall not steal.
9. Thou shall not bear false witness against
they neighbor.
10. Thou shall not covet anything that
belongs to thy neighbor.
24. Orthodox Judaism
Is the approach to religious Judaism which
subscribes to a tradition of mass revelation
and adheres to the interpretation and
application of the laws and ethics of the Torah
as legislated in the Talmudic texts by the
Tannaim and Amoraim.
MODERN ORTHODOX JUDAISM
ULTRA-ORTHODOX or HAREDI JUDAISM
25. CONSERVATIVE
(Known as Masorti Judaism outside North
America)
Is a major Jewish denomination which
views Jewish Law, or Halakha, as both
binding and subject to historical
development. The conservative rabbinate
therefore employs modern historical-
critical research, rather than only
traditional methods and sources.
