ECOLOGY & ESTATE MANAGMENT
What we do…
The natural environment can provide a range of goods and services to support land owners, farmers,
communities and the economy, whilst enhancing biodiversity and addressing climate change.
Sustainable land management practices seek to avoid damage to non renewable resources whilst
providing materials and ecologically functioning landscapes.
We work closely with our clients to identify opportunities to create and manage land, increase
biodiversity and profitability, manage flood risk, create green infrastructure networks, reduce waste,
improve air quality, and promote carbon sequestering activities.
Why people like us…
We have extensive experience in managing estates and landscapes for ecology and economic gain.
We promote sustainable rural estate management by understanding the economic and social
needs of our clients and identifying how the natural environment can meet their aspirations. This
can be in the form of estate management, land based renewable energy options; carbon
sequestration; habitat creation; or identifying new products from land based activities (such as
innovative products resulting from agricultural diversification schemes).
We work with farmers, landowners, estate managers, and public sector bodies to determine options
for sustainable land management and have a team of landscape and estate specialists to carry out
our land management services. In addition we liaise closely with the relevant agencies to always
ensure that best practice solutions are promoted.

OUR EXPERIENCE
........Making estate management sustainable
We have worked closely with land owners in designing and
undertaking their estate management plans to ensure that they
are as sustainable and economic as possible.
Our team have worked on several sites and a range of private
estates and holdings. Our involvement with the Burrough Court
Farm estate in Leicestershire is the start of a long term
relationship, undertaking sustainable lake restoration,
woodland management and game management in a way which
will benefit wildlife whilst advancing our ability to apply best
practice sustainable management techniques.
EcIA and BREEAM Communities
Our ecologists were commissioned to provide an Ecological
Impact Assessment as part of the team’s wider role in project
managing the BREEAM Communities and Environmental Impact
Assessment for a land owner in Lincolnshire.
Our team were involved in the project from the outset and
therefore were able to identify the opportunities and
constraints that the site afforded in terms of biodiversity at
the earliest stage.
We conducted a desk study following by a preliminary
ecological assessment covering Phase 1 habitat and NVC
surveys, bat surveys, bird surveys, great crested newt, and
reptile surveys. We liaised with the relevant agencies and
statutory bodies, and were involved in public consultations to
further understand the site and its environs.
Working with the client, the landscape architect, adjacent land
owners, and the flood specialist we now aim to significantly
enhance the biodiversity network within and around the site.
Our mitigation advice was also based upon the client’s desire
to improve the wider environment and included opportunities
to enhance biodiversity through the restoration of farm
hedgerows, planting of new woodland, creation of a farm
pond, and the enhancement of habitat linkages to the wider
countryside.
Our approach included advising the client on national
regulation and local policy including assessing appropriate
Biodiversity and Habitat Action Plans in place for the area;
and identifying statutory and non statutory designated
sites and protected species that might be impacted by the
proposal.
Our role included conducting initial ecological surveys and
the evaluation of hedgerows in accordance with the
Hedgerow Regulations; protected species surveys and
discussions and negotiations with statutory bodies and the
Wildlife Trust. We were able to identify and mitigate
against project activities that would cause damage, stress
or disturbance through all stages of the process
(construction, operation, decommissioning).
