This document discusses the master-slave relationship portrayed in Daniel Defoe's novel Robinson Crusoe through the relationship between Robinson Crusoe and Friday. It first defines the concept of master-slave mentality as one person largely owning and having control over another without freedom or rights. It then analyzes how Crusoe takes on the role of master over Friday, teaching him language and culture but ultimately dominating him. While their relationship starts as a father-son dynamic, it transforms into one of master and slave, with Friday representing African slaves and Crusoe representing European colonizers. The document argues the novel itself conveys the whole concept of a master-slave culture.
