2. The Dental Council of India was established to regulate
dental education and the profession throughout India.
The Dental Council of India was formed on 12th April 1949.
It is financed by the Ministry of Health and Family Welfar
and through the local State dental councils.
5. Constitution and Composition
One registered dentist possessing a recognized dental qualification
elected by the Dentists registered in Part A of each state register

8. Functions of DCI
DCI is charged with responsibilities for according recognition
to the
dental degrees awarded by various Universities and also
maintaining
the uniform standard of dental education in the Country.
The Council inspects the various institutions and bring the
deficiencies observed to the notice of authority concerned for
suitable recommendations.
Before starting the dental college or P.G. dental department, it
should essentially fulfill the certain requirement in respect of

11. Qualifications of Dental Hygienists
Any Authority in a State which grants a Qualification for Dental
Hygienists may apply to the Council to have such qualification
recognized and the council may, after consulting the government
and the State council in which the authority of making the
applications is situated, declare that such qualification when
granted after a specified date.
12. Qualifications of Dental Mechanics:
The Council may prescribe the period and nature of an
apprenticeship or training which shall be undergone and
the other conditions which shall be satisfied by a person
before
he is entitled to be registered under this act as a dental
mechanic.
13. Mode of Declaration :
All declarations shall be made by a resolution passed at
the
meeting of the council and shall be published in the
official
gazette.
Professional Conduct :
The Council may prescribe the standards of professional
conduct and etiquette or the code of ethics for dentists.
Regulations made by the council may specify which
violation shall constitute professional misconduct.
14. The Indian Register :
The Council shall maintain a register of dentists to be
known
as the Indian Dentists Register and Consisting of the
entries
in all the state registers of India.
15. DCI GUIDELINES REGARDING
NCOVID19
Dentists are responsible for adopting prevention &
infection control measures to avoid or reduce as much
as possible the transmission of microorganisms during
any procedure in their practice. The dental profession is
particularly at risk, due to the possibility of aerosols
produced by saliva droplets. These droplets can be
inhaled, come into contact with skin or mucous
membrane, &/or lodge on the surfaces of the dental
office or other materials used during dental
appointment where hands can then be contaminated.
Hence efforts need to be taken at all levels so that
dentist are not caught in the centre of transmission.
16. INSTRUCTIONS DENTAL STAFF TO BE
FOLLOWED PRIOR TO VISIT TO
DENTAL CLINICS Prepare the waiting area, bathrooms & patient consultation rooms so that proper supplies like
tissues, alcohol based handrub, soap at sinks.
If your clinic has toys, reading materials, remote control or other communal objects, remove them
or clean them regularly.
On a regular schedule, wipe all touchable surface areas with an approved surface cleaner.
If surfaces are dirty they should be cleaned using a detergent or soap and water prior to
disinfection.
In case of any dental care, do not forget to do a detailed examination of medical history other than
COVID19. If emergency dental care is medically necessary, complete a systematic assessment at the
time of check in to determine whether a patient should be considered a suspected or confirmed
COVID19 case.
Dentist should take strict personal protection measures & avoid or minimise operations that can
produce droplets or aerosols. The use of saliva ejectors can reduce the production of droplets and
aerosols.
Workers should avoid touching their faces including their eyes, noses & mouths, particularly until
after they have thoroughly wash their hands after completing work &/or removing PPE.
Limit paper work in the operatory as much as possible.
Train & retrain workers on how to follow established protocols.
Keep staff level in operatory to the minimum Required.

18. POST COVID DENTAL CLINIC
CONSIDERATIONS
Avoid as much as u can any aerosol based procedures, until the local
flash state administration or ministry of health & family welfare, govt
of India doesn’t issue any advisory with regard to end of community
transmission.
All dentist & support staff should wash their hand thoroughly with
soap & water & follow up with alcohol based hand sanitizer before
and after every patient screening or interaction.
Patient should scrubbed with iso propyl alcohol extra orally prior to
any dental procedures.
Wearing of N95 or 3 ply masks, suitable head cap, disposable gowns
& shoe covers at all times, protective eyewear & face shield are also
recommended.
19. Scheduling of patients is very essential, hence avoid
interactions of vulnerable patients (medically
compromised/ elderly patients) with general patients.
Fumigation of clinics periodically is advised.
All dental clinics should display health awareness posters
regarding NCOVID19.
Avoid crowding of patients & schedule them based on
treatment types.
Dental clinics should have adequate ventilation, as it can
reduce the risk of infection through dilution & removal of
infectious particles through air exchange. Improved
ventilation in clinics is essential in preventing transmission
of airborne infections.
Upon arriving home dentist and dental staff should take off
shoes, remove & wash clothing separately and immediately
shower prior to any contact with family members.
All patient details & records should be maintained properly
and if need arises should be shared with local health
authorities/administration.
