1. BRIEF PROFILE OF
ENGR.MUHAMMAD SHAUKAT
IMAM
Muhammad Shaukat Imam had been
very much keen to build him self
growing through and following a
disciplined lifestyle toward playing vital
role in alleviation of suffering of the
toiling masses and serving the country
and the nation at large. Toward
attaining his cherished goal, he
2. enrolled himself in the cubs, junior
scouts, and junior cadets, rove scouts
and UOTC. Such a formidable spirit had
been the guiding force behind his
joining the war of Liberation in 1971 as
a member of the actively engaged
Freedom Fighters in the real sense
while he had still been a pre secondary
school student in Barisal Zilla school
.He received his Training as a member
of the fighting force at the premises of
the Barisal girls school in April, 1971
and thereafter, he got actively engaged
in the war of liberation .In the process
of the war ,he witnessed for himself
,the way the occupation forces of the
Pakistan Army invaded various areas
and had set villages, Townships and
human dwellings on fire killing scores
3. of human beings . It appeared to him
as if he had been witnessing a
continuous war movie of Hollywood.
After the war of Liberation was over, he
appeared in the Secondary School
Certificate Examination in 1972from the
Barisal Zilla School and obtained First
Division. There after, he came to Dhaka in
1973 and got himself admitted into HSC
(science group) at the Dhaka College where
upon he passed the HSC Examination in
1975 obtaining First Division.
After completing the HSC course he went to
the then Soviet Union with a scholarship in
1975.He obtained B.Sc. Degree in
Mechanical Engineering in 1979 from the
Red Flag Institute of the Mechanical Faculty
of the Moscow Automobile Road
4. construction university and was placed in
the First Class .He obtained M.Sc. in
Automobile Engineering in 1981 from the
same university with a First class. While
submitting his thesis in the process of his
M.Sc. studies, he was interviewed by as
many as fifteen Professors of the university.
Engr.Muhammed Shaukat Imam came
back home in 1982 with three
invaluable resources (1) a First class
certificate of Master of Science in Auto
Mobile Engineering, (2) his wife Mrs.
Imam Kateryna Gregorievna belonging
to a rural area of Ukraine and (3) his
elder daughter Laila Imam.
After coming back to Bangladesh,
Engr.Muhammad Shaukat Imam joined the
RANGS group in 1982 as a service
5. Engineer in its office at 67, Purana Paltan,
Dhaka. Before he had completed three
years service in that organization, he
opened own automobile service center
named the Runner Motors Ltd in 1985 at
the Green Road, Dhaka. The now famous
NITOL MOTOR LTD joined him in
assembling various vehicles made in India
without any specialized tools .The Runner
Motors Ltd and the Nitol Motors Ltd,
previously situated side by side at Green
Road, had constructed 2-3 chassis of
Indian buses and tracks every week. In the
process, Engr.Mohammad Shawkat Imam
had been working as a sublet of Mr. Abdul
Matlub Ahmed, the chairman of the Nitol
group.
On being satisfied at the professional
and working performance of
6. Engr.Muhammad Shaukat Imam, a
famous company of stature no less
than that of CONCORD had engaged
him in 1989 with the responsibility of
operating the enteric sales, after sates
service, maintenance and supply of
spares related to their Taka: 30 million
project of imported LAND-NIVA
SUMMAR vehicles.
In the meantime, Engr.Muhammad Shaukat
Imam had his second daughter, Dayna
Imam 06/20/1983.In 1991,his wife proposed
that both of the daughters might be allowed
to study abroad the way he had done. He
found reason in her advice and left for
Moscow with his entire family in 1991 for
building a career not only for himself but
also for those of his daughters, Struggle
had again started a new. He compared his
7. struggle at Moscow with his involvement in
the war of Liberation of 1971. His daughters
were admitted into the American School
and studied there from 1991 till 1999 at
Moscow. There after, both the daughters
completed two year course each at the
State University of Moscow. They were
awarded best student merit by the
‘University: Laila Imam in 1997 and Dayna
Imam in 1999.Laila and Dayna left for the
United States of America. They studied at
the University of Colorado at Denver. Laila
Imam completed her studies at that
university on 16th December 2000. It had
been the day the war of Liberation was won
by Bangladesh in 1971. Engr.Muhammad
Shaukat Imam experienced the joy and
sprit while he was personally present at the
university campus the same way he had
experienced those on 16th December 1971.
8. His daughter Laila and his son in law both
were placed in the Dean’s list, both of them
are now in service in Merrellynch.
Bank of first order in USA since 26th
December 2000.
His second daughter Dayna Imam
completed her studies in the same
university, i, e, the University of
Colorado at Denver, in 2004 with
excellent results .She was awarded a
gold medal for her attainments and at
present, she is engaged in nurturing
leadership prospects of various
aspirants in that university and, side by
side, pursuing her studies for Masters.
Engr. Muhammad Shaukat Imam came
finally back to Bangladesh in 2001 with
his mission of establishing both of his
9. daughters accomplished. He is now
imbibed with a jovial mood of
creativity. He has found a new horizon
for building his own carrier the field of
Information Technology .He had done
his business in pc Hardware in
Singapore in 1993.The same year he
studied in depth the working of Fiber
Optics. During 2003-2004 he worked
for Grameen Phone in construction of
BTS, two of four works have been
completed and handed over to
Grameen Phone Ltd. These are:
(1). Fiber Optics laying along Gafargaon –
Fatema Nagar axis (18Km, 45days).
(2). Fiber Optics laying along Santahar –
Talora axis (20Km, 45days)
(3). Fiber Optics lying along Sylhet –
10. Chhatak axis was in progress (15Km), &
Completed.
Work on Grameen Field project of Grameen
Phone has been undertaken one at
Madhabpur, Sylhet, one at Gopaldi,
Narayanganj and again, one at Jampur,
Narayanganj.
