What is meant by motivation.
 Motivation actually describes the level of
desire employees feel to perform, regardless
of the level of happiness. Employees who are
adequately motivated to perform will be more
productive, more engaged and feel more
invested in their work. When employees feel
these things, it helps them and thereby their
managers are more successful. It is a
manager’s job to motivate employees to do
their jobs well. So this process through which
managers encourage employees to be
productive and effective.
Why Taylorism is an
inappropriate theory of
motivation for engineers.
 Taylor’s theories could not be effective motivation
tools for engineers is because this is not the
paradigm’s expressed purpose. Taylor was not
concerned with employee motivation. Rather, he
sought to increase efficiency and productivity with
an intense approach to ensuring results as being
critically important. The idea of specializing each
job to a degree where workers are not able to
exercise autonomy and differentiation of talents is
something that might not be especially appealing
to engineers who wish to create their work setting
differently and better.
Differences between the theories
of Maslow and Herzberg
 Frederick Herzberg who became one of the most
influential name in Business management. He is
most famous for introducing job enrichment and
the two factors theory ‘’Hygiene factors’’ &
‘’Motivation factors’’ The two factor theory of
motivation suggest that people satisfaction in this
dissatisfaction are influence by two indipended of
self factor.
 Maslow Hierarchy of needs that proposed by
Abraham Maslow in his 1943 that he said
Humans are motivated by five essential needs. 1st
Basic needs 2nd Security 3rd Social needs 4th
Self-esteem last is Actualization
Use of motivation theories to
influence its management style
and strategies
 Motivation theories can play a very important role
in influencing the management style and
strategies of a large corporation like this Siemens.
These theories help the companies to develop
and implement effective policies and strategies for
attracting right types of people needed by them
into man the organization, and to motivate them to
put in their best efforts towards achievement of
the organizational objectives. It determines the
kind of compensation schemes the company has.
It also helps companies to design its jobs that
provide maximum job satisfaction to the
employees.
