3. • Sly Peter
• Sly Peter is a traditional hero of Bulgarian folklore, about which anecdotes
about all Bulgarian territories have been told for nearly 400 years.
• For the first time, Clever Peter appeared in the 16-17 century, when Bulgaria
was still under Ottoman domination. It is not known exactly which part of
Bulgaria comes from the hero. Stories about it are narrated in the Bulgarian
districts of Dobrudja, Thrace and Macedonia. In 1873 he appeared in the
literature in the works of Ilia Blaskov. For him, an opera was written in 1967
and two comedy films from 1939 to 1960.
• His image is of a poor peasant, distinguished by extraordinary cunning,
wisdom and ingenuity, as his name suggests. Sly Peter is also regarded as a
local analogue of the hero hero Nastradin Hodja. The two of them often
argue and outwit each other in cheerful stories that still make people
laugh.

5. • A rich man told Sly Peter:
• - Why do not you say hello to me?
• - Well, why salute you? Sly Peter asked.
• "Because I have a thousand gold coins! - said the rich man.
• "Well, having them, you are yours!
• "They're mine, but I can give you five hundred!" - said the rich
man.
6. • Sly Peter laughed and said,
• "If you give me five hundred gold coins, you will have five
hundred, and I will have five hundred. Why then should I bow
you?
• "Maybe I'm tired of being rich and giving you all!"
• Sly Peter laughed:
• "If you give me all your coins, even harder!" I will have a
thousand then, and you nothing! Why then worship you?
• So the rich man could not overcome Sly Peter and make him
greet him.

9. • The little cunning Peter liked to joke. One day
• Hodja Nastradin met the boy in the street and hooked him up:
• - Petar, tell me some joke.
• "I'll tell you, go, but wait here, I'll run into my house to get my purse!" Peter
laughed, jumped to his lame leg and twisted in the next street.
• Nastradin waited for half an hour, waited for an hour, still looking where the boy
would ask. At that time a peasant passed and asked him:
• "Hodja, what are you waiting for here?"
• "I'm waiting for Peter to bring his bag with jokes," Narstradin snapped.
• - Wait, if you do not have a job! The peasant smiled and hurried to told the
people about the Hodja`s folly .
