Air heaters: Since 1923 Howden has been
supplying rotary air heaters to the power and
process industries.
Cooling fans: Our ultra-low noise cooling fans
can help contractors to meet very low noise
specifications or increase cooling within existing
acoustic limits.
Air preheater upgrades: Our sealing system
enhancement is so effective that in many cases it
allows the station to significantly increase MW
output.
Axial flow fans: We invented the Variax variable
pitch axial flow fan in 1951 and since then have
supplied more than 3000 fans to power stations
and FGD plant throughout the world.
Centrifugal fans: We invented the aerofoil bladed
centrifugal fan 50 years ago and now have supplied
more than 25,000 heavy duty fans.

Centrifugal fans: Our fans are optimised using the latest
finite element and numerical flow modelling techniques.
Mixed flow fans: In many cases this type of fan can
provide an optimum balance between centrifugal and
axial fan characteristics.
Air heaters: We configure our airheaters to meet
the customer’s performance, layout and construction
requirements.

Rotary heater elements: We can supply the optimum
element configuration for any set of operating parameters.
Air preheater upgrades: We can increase heat recovery,
reduce leakage or improve the cleanability of existing air preheaters,
irrespective of original manufacturer.

PROTECTION
Our comprehensive range of fans and heat exchangers is
specifically designed for use in systems to reduce SOx, NOx
and other emissions; such as wet and dry FGD, SCR, SNCR,
overfire air and gas & coal reburn.
We continually use our understanding of the chemistry of the
gas path and the interaction of the fans and heat exchangers
within it to provide the most cost-effective solution for the client.
Gas reheaters: Optimum element selection allied to an
effective cleaning system minimises the risk of fouling
and consequent pressure drop rise.
Gas reheaters: Our gas-gas heaters minimise
the potential for fouling and corrosion.
Air preheater upgrades: We can reconfigure existing air
heaters to meet the demands imposed by new operating
conditions, such as the upstream installation of SCR plant.
FGD: Having supplied the world’s first C Position fans, we now
have the world’s largest installed base of FGD booster fans.

Fans: We supply fans for the wet and dry positions
as well as combined ID/Boosters.
Blowers: Our centrifugal turbo blowers are used for FGD oxidation.Heater element profiles: Our knowledge of the process
chemistry allows us to choose the correct heater element
profile, configuration and material. A range of enamelling
processes allows us to match the level of protection with
the operating environment.
