1. Heath of population of Mirpur
and health problems
Mirpur is largest city of azad Kashmir. Its area is about
390m2
, population is 754,482. Weather is 5Co
and
humidity is 73%. Birth rate is 17.5 Death Rate is 5.3
Heath facilities in Mirpur:
As compared to other districts of azad Kashmir the heath
facilities is too good. There is one district head quarter
hospital which is well established and equipped and
there is also tensile headquarter hospital and dispensaries
in villages. Beside this there are also private hospitals
and one of famous is Riasat medical hospital. It is well
equipped Hospital. There are equipments for Cardio
surgery, Dialysis and Neurosurgery. There are also two
medical colleges
1. Mohtarmma Benazir Bhutto shaheed medical
college
2. Mohi-ud-dinn medical college.
These hospitals also have very good Paramedical staff.
They are highly trained and socialized. They
immediately report where ever they are needed 24 hours
a day. They are also expert in First Aid. In these
hospitals medical staff is also skillful. There are
specialized Doctor for every disease and they are very
cooperative.
2. There is also a Nursing College which is affiliated from
Malaysia. It produces a lot of Students every year and
helps the city to overcome the shortage of staff.
Health Issues:
In spite of all the above mentioned facilities there are so
many problems which we have to face.
First major problem is Cold Weather in winter. There is
no central heating system in the houses and electricity is
so expensive that not everyone can afford it so mostly
people are affected by Respiratory Diseases, Sinusitis,
and Common Cold etc. in the villages near the city there
is no hospital but dispensaries. In the Winter season
there are too many patients so we have to face the
shortage of medical staff. In this case Government send
Doctors from the District Hospital to those villages as a
result of which there are problems in the District
Hospital and transportation problems to those Doctors as
well.

main issue is unhygienic living condition and lack of
awareness among population. So there are many
infectious diseases such as Diarrhea, malaria and
Dengue. There are also problems of Clean and Pure
drinking water which is not available to 90% of the
population. As a result of which they have GIT
Syndrome, liver Diseases and TB of different organs
especially lungs etc.
3rd
is Sedentary life style. People in the cities are
facilitated as compared to the villagers; they have their
3. own transports and other luxurious things so they don’t
have physical activities due to which they have the
diseases of Hypertension, Hyperlipidemia, obesity and
Diabetes.
4th
is the city is situated at Line of Control between
Pakistan and India. There are many conflicts between
these two countries. Mostly there is firing and shelling at
the LOC and it causes a lot of destruction and spread
infections also. So many people have been disabled,
homeless and a lot of died in these conflicts.
Our Government is trying to improve above mentioned
problems and a lot of reforms have been seen in this
regard. I hope soon everything will be better.
