A very warm welcome to all our new members.!
The Pakistan Society (AKA PakSoc) is proud to be the sole representative of Pakistan, its people and culture, in the
Norfolk area. Such an exclusive and important role requires an incredible amount of responsibility, and through the
years we have contributed to the increasing awareness of Pakistani culture and traditions, both in UEA and in
Norwich. Our motives are simple:
Ensure the culture and traditions of Pakistan are retained and expressed through all activities.
To debate, discuss and dissolve the social, political and economical problems the Pakistani people are facing,
through intellectual debate and active involvement with Pakistani NGOs.
Creating an ethos that emphasises the importance of strong friendships; ensuring our incredibly diverse group
of members a bright and fruitful future through the excellent networking opportunities the Pakistan Society is
known for having.
To bring the incredible intensity and beauty of the Arts in Pakistan to the University & local community through
exhibitions, fashion shows and live music.

EID!
Eid (translation: ‘Festival’) is one of the most celebrated traditions in the world - 1.6 billion women, men & children
celebrate, dance and eat for several days (twice a year) to either celebrate the end of Ramzan (Eid-ul-Fitr) or at the
end of Hajj (Eid-ul-Azha). In Pakistan, 180 million people join in on the festivities and the colours, scents and tastes
of some of the oldest cultural traditions in the world are celebrated in all their glory. Every year, we bring all of that
glory and joy to UEA.
BARBECUE
Right before autumn, the Pakistan Society embraces its love for barbecued food in an all-out barbeque feast. The
food is delicious: spicy, succulent chicken; seriously sumptuous burgers AND a fantastic choice of vegetarian
alternatives. The drinks are ice-cold, and the food is hot and abundant. The BBQ, traditionally held by UEA Lake, is
one of our most popular events and for good reason! The weather promises to be lovely, the music loud, and
footballs, cricket bats aplenty.
CRICKET!
Both the most played sport in Pakistan and the most watched, PakSoc bring the passion and love the Pakistani
people have for Cricket to UEA every year. We invite everyone on campus to join us for a game of cricket. And we
really mean EVERYONE. These friendly, mixed matches are incredibly fun; whether you’re a beginner or the next
Shahid Afridi, don’t worry, there’s a match for you! The event will also have food, music and ever more opportunities
to socialise and build those exclusive networks the PakSoc loves to encourage. And for those a little more
competitive, we welcome you to attend trials for the Pakistan Society team to participate against other societies at
the Cricket Tournament the Pakistan Society intends to start off this year - all for charity.
KAOS FASHION SHOW!
The UEA KAOS society aims to fundraise and publicise student-led projects in the developing world. A charity
fashion show, the Pakistan Society proudly represents the huge fashion industry of Pakistan at this event. Bringing
an exploration of East meets West, our previous participation in the show gave an exclusive glimpse of haute
couture line, SAN•Ni (previously Ti’en) by Shahmir Sanni, our very own committee member. The line ranged from
traditional, bright prints to every-day wear to extravagant gowns. We strongly believe the amazing diversity of our
society is what made our show so incredible.
GO GLOBAL 2015!
Go Global is a week-long, official UEA event celebrating the cultures and traditions of the world. After the major
revamp of the Pakistan Society several years ago, the incredibly high standards we have retained throughout the
years are excellently showcased at Go Global. Our creative teams have helped prove to everyone that the PakSoc
is a society that strives for excellence, equality and engagement. Our performances have included dances ranging
from Khattak to Classical to Contemporary, fashion shows and even short, dramatic plays. Our society is one of
very few, if not the only one, that ensures our performances are intellectually stimulating, very entertaining, extra-
ordinary and even sometimes… a little controversial. Most importantly, we emphasise the importance of diversity
and equality by ensuring people of all genders, ethnicities, orientations and cultures are involved. Our diversity is
our greatest strength.
We hope to see you at all these incredible events.
With love and light,
The PakSoc.
