of the job.
• Make the interview more relevant to the job
• Interviewers will also view the interview more

3. PREPARE QUESTIONS IN ADVANCE
• Candidates are asked the same specific questions.
• Ensures that information obtained from candidates is
relevant and comprehensive.
• Method also helps avoid irrelevant content.
• Asking uniform questions makes candidate responses
more directly comparable.

4. INCLUDE MORE THAN ONE
INTERVIEWER
• The use of multiple interviewers greatly
increases the reliability of the process.
• Separate interviews are more likely to agree
on the right candidate.

5. FOCUS ON THE INTERVIEW
DURING THE INTERVIEW
• Avoid excessive reliance on your subjective
responses to the candidates.
• Some people perform better in interviews than
others.
• Candidates should only be solicited to ask
questions after the conclusion of the interview.

6. TAKE DETAILED NOTES
• Take notes during the interview
• Ability to remember specifics about each candidate’s
answers
• Specific notes for each interview also allows
interviewers to be specific.

7. PREPARE TO BE FLEXIBLE
• Be friendly to interviwee.
• Use small talk at the beginning to put the
candidate at ease.
• Conduct each interview in a disciplined manner.
• Remember the purpose of the interview.

8. ENSURE THE INTERVIEW ISN'T
TOO SHORT OR TOO LONG
• Ask the same basic questions of every candidate.
• Improvise follow-up questions as necessary until you
get a full answer to each question.
• A good rule of thumb is to ask no more than four to six
questions in a 30-minute interview.
• No more than eight to 12 questions in a one-hour
interview.
