DEF: A fertilizer is any material of natural or synthetic origin that is
applied to soils or to plant tissues to supply one or more plant nutrients
essential to the growth of plants.
TYPES OF FERTILIZERS
There are two types of fertilizers
2. 1.Organic fertilizer
2. Inorganic fertilizers
Organic fertilizer:
Organic fertilizers are the
derivatives of plants or animals material(metabolic
products or waste materials).
Plants derivatives may be in the form of ;
Hey Leaves
Bark Wood chips
Seed hulls Corn husk
5. Advantages of organic fertilizers:
Improves the soil structure.
Retains soil moisture.
Increase aeration.
Less risk of leeching
Inorganic fertilizers:
Def: these are the fertilizers that are derivatives from
chemicals
For examples: ammonium nitrate, potassium
chloride and phosphate etc.
Examples of inorganic fertilizers are sodium nitrate
etc
6. Advantages of inorganic
fertilizerscontain balanced amount of nutrients i-e
nitrogen and phosphorus that promote the
growth of leaves and stem
Disadvantages of inorganic
fertilizersThey have high acid contents
They have the ability to burn skin.
