2. E-RESOURCES
Meaning
Electronic resources (or e-resources) are materials in digital format accessible
electronically. Examples of e-resources are electronic journals (e-journal), electronic
books (e-book) online databases in varied digital formats, Adobe Acrobat documents
(.pdf), WebPages.
Definition:
According to Library and Information Technology Glossary "Term used to describe all of
the Information products that a library provides through a computer network. "
According to Wikipedia, Electronic Resources means "Information (usually a file) which
can Be stored in the form of electrical signals, usually on a computer; Information
available on The Internet".

3. Need of E-Resources:
E-Resources enable the librarian to provide better service to the user community. The few
Considerable points are mentioned bellow;
 To get access to an information source by the more than one users.
 E-Resources can be searched quickly.
 These can be found easily by the user.
 These resources can be stored in huge amount.
 Amount of time spent on the E-Resources use.
 Analyses the purpose of using e-resources by respondent
 Know different types of e-resources commonly used by respondents
 To collect, store, organize information in digital form.
 To promote efficient delivery of information economically to all the users.
 To encourage co-operative efforts to save and share the investments in research
resources, Computing and communication network.

5. Features of Electronic Publishing:
 Electronic information is easy to get to all users in all locations.
 Electronic publishing generate information available rapidly to the entire users to
their own desktops, therefore obtaining the electronic information much faster than
print versions.
 Electronic dissemination is very speedy evident and research views and results are
to be disseminated faster and cheaper
 Electronic publishing is not restricted to a single users or any particular location.
 Searching and browsing are a common attribute of electronic publishing.
 Electronic journal articles are easy to use and easy to reach on particular articles by
following step by step procedure.

6. Conclusion:
The range of electronic resources is considerable and growing all the time. The type,
quality and usefulness of resources varies enormously (especially for academic
users).There are both free and fee resources. New users should be made aware of the
differences, benefits and drawbacks of various kinds of resources.
