“Design to express not to impress” John
Tanedo. Design is not focused particularly
on designing an interior space, yet it is a
much more complex task. Designing interi-
ors is about giving the space a certain
character and feeling. Fashion, Graphic
and Interior are 3 aspects that are linked
to one another broadening our perspec-
tives in the "design" field. It is important to
express ideas through design and make
excellent use of the space in hand. Think-
ing outside the box and opening up to
new trends is something I abide by along
with punctuality,organisation and dedica-
tion. Having one's own style and standing
out is important because style is something
you live and breath, simply a reflection of
who you are.

THE STREETS
SPRING 2012

`
DESIGN 6 was an experience by itself. For the first time
we had the chance to discover Mar Mikael street and choose
the shop we want. I was Intruiged by a special shop called
PLAN BEY. I admired the simplicity and continuity in the shop.
The concept was that we had to choose and object
and from that object begine our design. My object
was the KAAK Seller cart which conssited of a
bicyclewith a cart on the back carrying the food.
The concept i went for was to create an
extension to the street which tranformed
from a street extension and hangout
place during the day
to a shelter at night for the
homeless people

6. Design 7 was an intruiging semester
iindeed. We were asked to design a
bank, yet not any normal bank but one
that changed the idea of the banking system.
After finalising my research on the the banking
systems, my concept was a bank for teenagers,
ages 13-16 where they could com hang out
finish their homework and learn about the banking
system from professionals and how they can
save money.

objects in those two floors. I wanted
the place to be functional and educa-
tional at the same time. Overall the
mix and match was interesting.”

8. ZONE 1: In this area Students will
arrive and can have a one on one
consultation about how much money
they have and information about how
they can start their own account.
ZONE 2: IN this part students can
have a relaxing space to study
eighter seperately or in groups.
The furniture is designed specifically to
meet their needs.
ZONE 4: This zone is the Computer zone
for students to do quick research about what
they need. It is also considered to be a digital
library since i-pads and screens are provided.
ZONE 5: Also known as the Relaxing Area
or Play Area. Students are encouraged here
to meet other students and mingle around. They
are provided with a pingpong table and a relaxing
view.
ZONE 3: At the reception are people are
welcomed, and informed about the bank.
They have informative television screens
providing them with the daily program
such as (seminars, reservations and study help)
9. “the first floor was the funnest
because i had to make it attractive
for teeneagers and alluring to come
inside and discover whats next.”

11. DESIGN 8 was the last and final class. The objective
was to choose a building in hamra area and change
the Interior.
My Building was the Ghazairi Building in Hamra which was
newly baught by the Lebanese American Unviersity as
an extension to their university.
This is where the idea came of transforming the building
to the Fashion Design School of LAU. They needed
something that can be done quickly due to time
restraint and meets the requirements of the fashion
design school. I began my research and started
figuring out what they needed. The Building was
large and consisted of 4 floors with a big patio
in the center.
I came up with having the ground floor as
a meeting area for students that transforms
into a runway where people from all the
floors can watch what is goig on.
i included a librar with transformable
shelves, classrooms with glass curtain
wall so that the students can make use
of several classes when needed.
Time was a constraint, yet, i managed
to make everything work out in
the end.

streets for people to be able to watch the show while people
that are passing by. Each floor has a color making ti stand
out from the rest of the floors.”
14. “The green walls are there to seperate the
building from its surrounding. The Bridge was
an addition to the building to create a certain
type of curculation that was functinal and
practical.”
15. “This Shelf was designed by me for
the library. the shelves are made
from sound proof material to
prevent noise at the library. they are
made with a rail on the ground in
order for students to move them
around as they want and create their
own spaces. ”
16. Graphic Design was a passion i discovered half
way through university. I did not let it stop there.
I started my Diploma in September 2015 until March
2015.
Courses such as Adobe Photoshop, Illustrator and InDesign
became a part of my everyday life. I started working as
a Graphic Designer along with the Interior World and
to me they complete each other and completed me.
In addition to that i sarted doing web designing for
responsive websites other than branding.
As an experience it was amazing and added to
my qualifications.

22. IKEA Twisted Curlz Marketing project was one of my
FAVORIT Project that i have worked on.
The missions was to attract more customers to the IKEA
Yas island store. The Activity at the time was
LIVING WITH TEXTILE, so we got this IDEA of mixing Fashion
and Interior.
Ahmad Al Sayed AKA @twistedcurlz was the
fashion designer that was chosen for this project. With
his own fashion line called HOUSEOF NOMAD and his
social media life he was a Perfect fit for our porject.
Ahmed along with my help was given two rooms to
re-design completely using IKEA fabric sand
we went CRAZY.
The Result was epic and the videos are online on
IKEA UAE facebook page along with
the instagram of @twistedcurlz.

“I have had the privilege of
working with Saria on a very impor-
tant project in the Yas store. We had to
rebuild three rooms and prepare for the film-
ing in under 4 nights, including the filming. Her
teamwork and high spirits were displayed from the
beginning phase. I remember her working to complete
the project using the little resources she was given very effi-
ciently. It would be modest to say that she has done an
exceptional job; but truly the project wouldn't have
been successful without her creative thinking
and enthusiasm. Saria is someone I would
be lucky to work with again.”

26. Workspace 02 was designed for two
young newly graduated students who just
started up their own Marketing and Branding
company. The main item was the Bekant desk
which can be altered to be of different heights. In
addition to all that we gave our customers some
new ideas for storage and placing their projects. .

29. This Bedroom at IKEA wes designed for the Expat
.arabs
It was a bit of a challenge designing it due to the bed
being in the middle of the room like a very untypical
bedroom. the mix of the grey with the white gave it a very
,beachy feeling giving the family space to get dressed
.sleep and also accomodate their child
