Psyche and logos : soul and science
Earlier psychologists termed it as
“the study of soul”
But soul is metaphysical; cannot be seen
Later explained as “the study of mind”
Disregarded since the word “mind” is ambiguous

“the science of consciousness or internal
experiences”
Later defined as “the science of Behaviour” (20th
century)
Behaviour is overt actions : result from inner processes
Thus psychology is a study of inner processes and
outer behaviour

“Educational psychology deals with the
behaviour of human beings in educational
situation.” (Skinner)
“Educational psychology describes and explains
the learning experiences of an individual from
birth through old old age.” (Crow and Crow)
