Radical Cartography: the practice of mapmaking that subverts
conventional notions in order to actively promote social change.
Our criteria for selecting these ten maps emphasized
radical inquiry and activist engagement.

on issues which the maps and essays address:
identity, land-use, imprisonment, energy, migration.
Jai Sen, a founder of Unnayan, a collective of
“radical planners” working in 1980s Kolkata on
dwelling rights for the working poor.

Pedro Lasch’s Map- shows the America without boundaries
He names the map Latino/a America, exposing what is generally hidden from maps of the U.S. and
showing people’s paths and journey when they cross the Mexico/US border and points to globalization

producing a shadow class of displaced non-citizens”

Maribel Casas-Cortes and Sebastian Cobarrubias write about how these types of maps recreate the
territory.
