- 4. Introduction • Li-Fi is a new way of wireless communication. • Data is transferred through LED light. • This was introduced by Harald Hass in the TED, in July 2011. • Li-Fi is a light based Wi-Fi.

- 7. Visible Light Communication (VLC) • X-rays, Gamma rays, UV rays, IR rays, Visible Light rays, Radio waves etc. are available in the atmosphere. • VLC uses visible light between 400THz (780 nm) and 800 THz (375 nm) as medium.
- 8. Disadvantages of other wave regions • Radio waves are expensive and less secure. • Gamma rays are harmful to human health. • X-rays also have health issues. • UV light is used at those place without people. • IR rays are used only with low power.

Limitations • Can’t be accessed without a light source. • Requires near or perfect line-of-sight. • Opaque obstacles can affect the data. • High initial cost for full fledged data network. • Range is shorter than Wi-Fi. • Natural light, normal electric light can affect the data transmission speed.
- 14. Future Scope • Great scope is there for use and evolution of Li-Fi technology. • It is due to light is everywhere and free to use. • Access & transfers the data very fastly. • It is a cleaner, greener, safer communication.
