3. Content
• Introduction
• Architecture
• Working
• Comparison between Radio Communication Technologies
• Advantages & Disadvantages
• Applications
• Future Scope
• Conclusion
4. Introduction
• Li-Fi is a new way of wireless
communication.
• Data is transferred through LED light.
• This was introduced by Harald Hass in the
TED, in July 2011.
• Li-Fi is a light based Wi-Fi.
7. Visible Light Communication (VLC)
• X-rays, Gamma rays, UV rays, IR rays, Visible Light rays, Radio waves
etc. are available in the atmosphere.
• VLC uses visible light between 400THz (780 nm) and 800 THz (375 nm)
as medium.
8. Disadvantages of other wave regions
• Radio waves are expensive and less
secure.
• Gamma rays are harmful to human
health.
• X-rays also have health issues.
• UV light is used at those place
without people.
• IR rays are used only with low
power.
9. Comparison of Speed of various Wireless Technologies
Technology Speed
Li-Fi ~1 Gbps
Wi-Fi ~150 Mbps
IrDA ~4 Mbps
Bluetooth ~3 Mbps
NFC ~424 kbps
10. Comparison of Li-Fi and Wi-Fi
Parameter Li-Fi Wi-Fi
Spectrum Visible Light RF
Standard IEEE 802.15.7 IEEE 802.11
Range Light Intensity (< 10m) Radio Propagation & Interference
(< 300m)
Data Transfer Rate Very High (~ 1Gbps) Low (100Mbps-1Gbps)
Power Consumption Low High
Cost Low High
Bandwidth Unlimited Limited
11. Shortcomings of Radio Wave Transmission
• Capacity
• Energy Efficiency
• Availability
• Security
12. Advantages
• Efficiency
• High Speed
• Availability
• Cheaper & Reliability
• High Security
• Low Latency
• Less Interference
13. Limitations
• Can’t be accessed without a light source.
• Requires near or perfect line-of-sight.
• Opaque obstacles can affect the data.
• High initial cost for full fledged data
network.
• Range is shorter than Wi-Fi.
• Natural light, normal electric light can
affect the data transmission speed.
14. Future Scope
• Great scope is there for use and evolution of
Li-Fi technology.
• It is due to light is everywhere and free to use.
• Access & transfers the data very fastly.
• It is a cleaner, greener, safer communication.
17. Applications
• Education Systems
• Medical
• Aircrafts
• Underwater
• Secure Communications
• Smart Home
• Traffic Management
• Mobile Connectivity
• Virtual & Augmented Reality
18. Conclusion
• It promises a great potential of
wireless internet.
• Li-Fi promises to solve issues of
Radio communication technologies.
• There is a development of future
applications of Li-Fi.
• We can extend to different platforms
and various walks of human life.
