Ramp-- (1).pptx
1. Ramp
• Airport ramps are often compact, noisy, and crowded areas where
rampworkers, such as luggage handlers, caterers, and fuelers, service
departing and arriving aircraft.
• In addition to these employees, there are also emergency response and
medical vehicles, airport operators, FAA officials, airport police, airport fire,
maintenance engineers, airline crew, vendor, and concessions staff on the
ramps.
• A large number of workers using equipment in a limited space while
frequently under great time constraint produces a situation where
accidents, fatalities, and damage to aircraft and equipment are possible
(Dillingham 2007).
2. Ramp Working
• Guiding the aircraft into and out of the parking position.
• Towing with pushback tractors.
• Offloading & loading.
• Gate-checked luggage, often handled on the tarmac as passengers disembark.
• Refueling, which may be done with a refueling tanker truck or refueling pumper.
• Luggage handling, usually by means of belt loaders and baggage carts.
3. Ramp Functioning
1. Marshalling: Aircraft parking guide staff upon arrival.
2. Avioman:- The officer who operates the Aviobridge/Garbarata.
3. Load Control :- officers who plan aircraft loading allocations (pax, baggage, cargo and mail)
4. Load Master :- officers who supervise the loading of baggage and cargo according to plan.
5. Departure Control:- The officer who controls the allocation of aircraft parking and helps the aircraft to
make movements while on the apron.
4. SUGGESTION
• Reduce the labor cost.
• Simplify the flight operations.
