Last 2017, SEN’s Design Group projected a 5 to 8 percent increase for the kitchen and bath industry. The data include housing trends, labor and regional differences, as well as many other factors. This year, however, the design group sees at least a 10 to 12 percent growth should there be no cataclysmic global event and interest rates.

2018 Starts Out Strong
Last year’s reported natural disasters in Florida, Texas, the Caribbean, and Northern California
contributed to the massive rebuilding taking place at present. This year looks to be one of the
strongest years since the recession ended, according to the National Kitchen & Bath Association
(NKBA).
Homeowners have been spending 16 percent more than the previous year in terms of home
remodeling and improvements. It is at least five points higher than the past three years based on the
figures from Census Bureau.
There may be some moderation, but NKBA expects that 2018 will be robust for the said industry.
3. What People Spend On
At the moment, boomers remain as the provider of the significant bulk of projects, according to SEN
Design Group. Some Generation X-ers land second place while millennials enter the remodeling
market. The latter, however, have smaller-scale budgets.
Exciting expansions beyond the basic kitchen design may also occur soon. These expansions include
family rooms with coffee nooks, mini kitchens in guest rooms, and a snack or beverage centers – all of
which serve as new profit opportunities.
Kitchen Trends
In the previous year, the minimal, smudge-resistant yet sleek look dominated the kitchen trends. This
2018, however, column refrigeration may move toward a lasting trend.
Technology is taking over kitchens this year, delivering ovens with smartphone-control capabilities and
allowing homeowners to use their appliance remotely. Soft-close cabinetry, on the other hand, starts
out as a standard, which the market predicts to go on.
Deep-wide cabinet drawers also emerge as storage features, like pullouts, rollouts, spice organizers,
and cutlery drawers, keep trending up.
Many of today’s kitchen owners look for operational automation for their homes and businesses to
streamline efficiencies. The upward trend may signify a good opportunity for everyone in the industry.
