The parking shortfall
in the Middle Northeast
Corridor is a ancestral
structural consideration
dating from the NJ
Transit’s predecessors,
the Pennsylvania,
Jersey Central, Lehigh
Valley and Reading
Railroads. They
provided saturation level
services on four closely
located corridors; NJT
serves only two of those
corridors requiring more
densely located
customer conveniences.

• The following slides describe opportunities that would eliminate the projected
shortfall and provide a 1,000 space parking surplus between Princeton Junction and
Metro Park.

• Demand growth exceeding 100% by 2017 is expected, decking lot 3 (162 Spaces) is
needed, each deck added would gain approximately 130 spaces e.g. 4 decks would total
685 spaces

• Given the anticipated growth, consideration must be given to getting lot 7 decked (2
levels) could add 1500 spaces. Transit Oriented Development at this location could also,
because of it’s proximity to the Cranford, Garwood and Plainfield Stations (Only 9.8
miles/15-18 minutes) reduce the 250 space parking shortfall on the RVL

• The Liberty Corridor Project, which is fast-tracked, will add 450-475 spaces
• Consideration of further expansion at this site should be delayed pending the
completion and assessment of the Liberty Corridor Project’s effect

we could gain 4,000 new spots
• The continued availability of the
New Brunswick City parking is
questionable. Uncertain
redevelopment plans there
encourage expansion of Jersey
Avenue facilities. Reassessment of
the Jersey Avenue portions of the
NEC schedule maybe warranted
• Mr. Viscardi, of this agency has
developed a concept plan (2008)
that could be adopted as is or
expanded to add the required
parking for 2017

If we eliminate lots 3 and 4 deck lot 2 and add 3 new decks, converting this to a full station stop with all amenities we could gain 4,000 new spots • The continued availability of the New Brunswick City parking is questionable. Uncertain redevelopment plans there encourage expansion of Jersey Avenue facilities. Reassessment of the Jersey Avenue portions of the NEC schedule maybe warranted • Mr. Viscardi, of this agency has developed a concept plan (2008) that could be adopted as is or expanded to add the required parking for 2017

(Shops, a four star restaurant, a police sub-station [NJT-PD, AMTRAK- PD & W. Windsor Township.
