Title:Pride and Prejudice
Author:Jane Austen
Publisher:Thomas Egerton
Publishing Year:1813
About
Summary
Jane Austen's Pride and Prejudice centers on the conflict between marrying for
love and marrying for economic reasons. None of Mr. Bennet's five daughters
can inherit his estate, so they are pressured into finding security in "good"
marriages. Elizabeth Bennet, the main character, struggles with the societal
pressures of marriage and resists Mr. Darcy's advances and proposals.
Eventually, however, she finds that she does love him, and for that reason, she
decides to marry him.
Setting
Where did it happen?
The action moves between a few different
locations in England, including Brighton,
London, and the counties of Hertfordshire,
Derbyshire, and Kent, but there is little detailed
description of the geographic settings.
How about when??
Jane Austen’s most famous novel, Pride and
Prejudice, was set in the 19th century. This
time is also called the Regency era in English
history. Jane Austen created her works within
this exact period. More precisely, the events of
the book most likely take place between 1795
and 1810.
Main Characters
Fitzwilliam Darcy
A wealthy gentleman, the
master of Pemberley, and the
nephew of Lady Catherine de
Bourgh. Though Darcy is
intelligent and honest, his
excess of pride causes him to
look down on his social
inferiors
Elizabeth Bennet
The novel’s protagonist. The
second daughter of Mr. Bennet,
Elizabeth is the most intelligent
and sensible of the five Bennet
sisters. She is well read and
quick-witted.
Jane Bennet
The eldest and most beautiful
Bennet sister. Jane is more
reserved and gentler than
Elizabeth.
Charles Bingley
Darcy’s considerably wealthy
best friend. Bingley’s purchase
of Netherfield, an estate near
the Bennets, serves as the
impetus for the novel.
Conflict
The conflict is reflected in the novel’s
title and arises from the clash of Darcy’s
cold aristocratic pride and Elizabeth’s
instinctive feminine prejudice against
the arrogant man. It is a battle between
pride and prejudice, two main scourges
of the aristocratic society.
After all the various twists and
turns, the numerous setbacks and
misunderstandings, the conclusion
to the story is generally a happy
one. Jane and Elizabeth fulfill
society's expectations by getting
married to eligible men in
possession of a good fortune. For a
while, this seemed impossible.
Darcy was always too...
Solution
The main messages of Pride and
Prejudice are that first impressions
aren't always correct, that love and
respect are the key to a happy
marriage, and that inflexible gender
roles are unfairly limiting.
Review
If you love reading fiction especially romance ,I highly
recommend you to read this beautiful book.
Thank You!
