1. ITEM ON THE FLY
Adding item records to the
database for temporary use.
2. A Temporary record is created when
During checkout it may
become necessary to
create an “ ITEM ON THE
FLY”
You will receive a
notification from the
system stating “Checkout
Error: Item not found in
the Catalog”
Select OK
to acknowledge the
notification
3. Begin the process of attaching
the item to a temporary record.
From the Items
wizard group
Select “Add Item“
Wizard
4. All items created on the fly are
given the Title “Item on the fly” so
that’s the record we want
Search For: ITEM ON THE FLY
INDEX: TITLE
LIBRARY: HOU-LMS
Click “Search”
5. XX(does not mater what is in the parenthesis) – HOU-LMS
You can attach the item to
a record that displays the
call number as “XX” and
the home library as “HOU-
LMS”
Select an LMS Record by
clicking once to highlight
Click “Add Item” at the
bottom of the screen
6. Filling the Blanks
An item template based on an
LMS item record will display, and
this is where we input info about
the specific item
Item ID
Item Type
Home Location: CATALOGING
Item Library: HOU-LMS
Number of
Pieces
Check box to Shadow Item
In the extended information area
Choose to enter a CIRCNOTE
Standard Format is:
CALL# “TITLE”/AUTHOR
Click “Save”
Click “Close”
8. Back to checkout
Check item out to customer
Circulation note with specific item information will display
Click “Close”
9. All items created on the fly are
given the title “Item on the fly”
The Title will display
as “ITEM ON THE
FLY” on the
customer's receipt
10. Checking IN an Item on the fly
Once the item has been
scanned the circ note
will display routing
information to
“Cataloging”
Click “OK”
Attach transit slip
Place item with other
items for delivery
