“Staffing pertains to recruitment, selection,
development and compensation of
subordinates.”

It is the phase of managerial function in which
filling and keeping the position provided by the
organization structure filled with the right people.
 Recruitment, or getting applicants for the jobs as
they open up.
 Selection of the best qualified from those who seek
the jobs.
 Training those who need further instructions to
perform their work effectively or to qualify for
promotions.
 Performance appraisal, since it serves as the basis
for job change or promotion.
 Administration of compensation plans, since it is an
important factor in both getting and holding qualified
people.
 As it is estimated that labour cost constitute
from 25% of production cost and 40% of selling
cost in manufacturing enterprise therefore
business can only be successful if it capable of
bringing in and developing right kind of people.
 Therefore staffing plays an important role as
following:-
1- It help in discovering talented and competent
workers and developing them to move up in the
corporate ladder.
2- It ensures greater production by putting the right
man in right job.
3- It helps to avoid sudden disruption of an
enterprise’s production run by indicating shortage of
personnels,if any, in advance.
4- It helps to prevent under utilization of personnel
through overmanning and the resultant high labour
cost and low profit margins.
5- It provides information to management for the
internal succession of managerial personnel in the
event of an unanticipated turnover.
