Types of Class Characteristics.
3. Class characteristics are those writing features common to a group i.e.
the common pattern of handwriting, letters, their shape which are
limited to a group, age or language.
5. Size
The size of handwriting may vary person to person or vary according to
the circumstances in which it is written.
It can be- Large, Medium and Small
6. Spacing refers to the amount of space between letters, words
and lines of writing.
There are several aspects of spacing that becomes habitual
within the individual and value in the identification process.
These includes Wide, Narrow, Mixed and uniform spacing. Also
the spacing between lines on unruled sheets also referred as
INTERLINEAR SPACING
7. The amount of time it takes a writer to execute a handwriting is called writing
speed.
Speed can be Fast, Medium, Slow.
8. Slant is the inclination of the letters relative to the
perpendicular to the baseline of the writing.
Slant can be- Vertical, Forward and Backward.
9. Skill is the ability/expertise to do something. The act of writing is a
skill learned through repetition until it becomes habit. The more the
individual practices, the better the skill.
The skill can be High, Medium and Low.
10. Weight or Pressure unconsciously applied on the writing surface with
the writing instrument during the act of writing is called Pen
Pressure.
Writers can categorized by Light, Medium and Heavy pen pressure.
11. It is the motion of writing instrument with the action of hand on the
writing surface.
Generally there are 4 types of Movements
1. Finger Movement
2. Wrist Movement
3. Forearm Movement
4. Shoulder Movement/ Full arm Movement
12. The baseline is the imaginary line or actual lines on which writing
sits. Some writers stays above the baseline, some stay on the line and
some goes below it.
The alignment can be- Ascending, Descending, Horizontal
13. Line quality is defined as the smoothness, evenness, continuity,
directness of strokes. Line quality is most important features in
handwriting examination.
It can be- Uniform and Non-Uniform
