AUGUST-SEPTEMBER 2013
In Focus: Social Initiatives @ SIESCOMS
By Chinmay Bhide
SIESCOMS is traditionally known for various
social activities it conducts in the campus and
also beyond the campus by collaborating
with various NGOs. The Sahyog committee
along with the internal events committee
organizes several events to expose and
sensitize students of SIESCOMS on the
various social issues and responsibilities
apart from inculcating managerial and
leadership skills.
This academic year, Sahyog committee
flagged off its events on 6th August by
celebrating the “World Organ Donation
Day”. Members of Sahayog committee
organized street plays at various places in the
SIES, Nerul campus to spread awareness
about organ donation among the youth in
the college. Several creative posters
depicting the importance of organ donation
were also handmade by the Sahyog
committee.
Later on 17th August a seminar was held on
the importance of Organ donation where the
speakers from Global Hospital under the
guidance of ZTCC (Zonal Transplant Coordination Centre) were invited to give
students various details about the organ
donation and cleared the myths about the
same. Large number of students participated
in the awareness program and many of them
pledged to donate their organs.
The Internal events committee organized
th
Independence Day celebrations on 15
August. Students and faculty displayed great
national
pride
and
enthusiastically
participated in various activities organized as
a part of the celebrations. Sahyog committee
took this opportunity to spread awareness
about the flag code as laid down by the
Constitution of India and the importance of
respecting the Tri Color. Also the students
and faculty alike were requested to collect
any flag that is thrown away on roads or
littered away and deposit the same in a flag
box kept at the entrance of the college. The
collected flags were disposed of as per the
guidelines of the Flag code of India.
The Sahyog committee adopted a novel way
of spreading awareness about various social
issues and crimes that have been plaguing
India by organizing “Nukkad Natak” on 23rd
August. Groups of students representing
various courses performed skits on the
theme. The skits enacted by students’
highlighted diverse issues ranging from
female foeticide to crimes against women

and communal riots. The MCA team bagged
the first prize for the most innovative street
play.
The street plays are usually done without the
assistance of a mike and it was no different
here too, but students rose to this challenge
and still conveyed the message loudly and
clearly to the audience.
