Entries Invited for the Woodpecker Film Festival (WFF) 2013
The film festival invites entries on a variety of issues ranging from environment, gender,
health, education, livelihoods and religion to social advertisements and animation for a
better world. Last date for submission is August 17.
New Delhi, June 17, 2013: The Woodpecker Film Festival (WFF) Directorate has announced
Call for Entries for the 2013 edition of the film festival. Launched in the backdrop of the
completion of 100 years of Indian Cinema, the film festival aims to showcase and promote the
rich diversity of film making traditions in the country and the impact it can create in the society.
The three day film festival will be organized from Dec 19-21, 2013 at New Delhi.
Talking more about the festival, Mr Narender Yadav, Director-Communications, WFF, said “The
festival wishes to enhance understanding and appreciation of new cinematic traditions as a
powerful tool for social change. The festival will screen short films and advertisements focusing
on diverse social issues and nine compelling themes. It is an endeavour to successfully take
emerging genres of cinema to a wider and more diverse audience in the country and at the
same time bring together industry representatives, film societies, upcoming and established
filmmakers as well as technical experts together.”
Film Categories:
For the 2013 festival entries are invited in the following categories:
• Environment & Wildlife • Animation for a better world
• Education • Films for children
• Livelihoods • Religion and culture
• Gender • Public Health
• Social Advertising and Public

Deadline for Submission and selection process:
Last date for submission of entries is August 17 and the nominations are likely to be announced
by the end of September. Films having duration upto 30 minutes are only eligible for
participating in the film festival. The Nomination Jury will meet in the month of September and
will select films for screening during the festival. The nominated films will then be presented to
the Award Jury to finally select the winners of 2013 festival.

Woodpecker Awards
The Woodpecker Awards are aimed to inspire creativity and recognise the talent of Indian
filmmakers who are focusing on alternative ways of filmmaking and experimenting with new
ideas and issues. The Awards will be presented in a gala Award Ceremony on Dec 21 at New
Delhi. Apart from the 9 thematic awards there will be 5 technical awards and 1 Best of the
festival award in this competitive film festival.
Focus on youth
The film festival is mainly focused to attract the young generation towards this exciting world of
filmmaking. It is also an attempt to make them understand how cinema can be a powerful
medium not only to highlight an issue but also to bring the desired social change. “To ensure
that more and more film enthusiasts especially youngsters can come and watch these films, we
will keep the entry absolutely free during the film festival. Also, special promotion of the festival
will be done in colleges and institutes to ensure participation of large number of youth, in
addition to filmmakers, media professionals, representatives from government and non-
government organisations, advertising professionals and academicians,” said Mr Yadav.
About the Organiser
An initiative of CMSR Consultants, a New Delhi based research and communication think tank,
the film festival will be organised by CMSR Foundation, a not-for-profit body registered under
the India Trust Act. The Foundation has been established to harness the power of information,
education and communications to achieve desired social change. CMSR Consultants was
