3. Watermarking
Watermarking is a feature that allows you to print
a digital signature or custom text on every page.
Watermarks can be printed in the top or bottom
margins of the page, or repeated across the entire
page. Typical uses of watermarking include:
• Printing full page watermarks on highly
sensitive documents making it impossible to
remove
• Adding a username to the bottom of every
page to help identify the owner
• Writing job metadata in the footer such as print
time, printer or document name
• Applying a digital signature to help track and
verify documents
4. Digital Signatures
Digital signatures are a powerful form
of providing document authenticity,
integrity and verification. Similar to an
electronic fingerprint, they provide the
highest levels of security by
presenting as a cryptographically
secure HMAC or Bates Number.
A digital signature can be used to
uniquely trace any printed page to the
exact entry in the job log for that
printed document. Showing the origin,
author and details of the print jobs
while sending a strong message of
accountability to users for every
document printed.
5. Print Archiving
PaperCut's Print Archiving empowers approved
administrators to browse and review the content of
print activity within their environment. Alongside the
powerful tracking and reporting functionality built into
PaperCut, this gives system administrators a wide
range of auditing functions, such as:
• Store an historic record of all printed content.
• View past print jobs interactively in the browser.
• Fined-grained control over access to archived
content.
• Download the original spool file for 100% fidelity
when reprinting.
• Enable or disable archiving on selected printers
and users.
6. Secure Print Release and
Find-Me Printing
In a standard printing environment, a user's jobs are sent
directly to the printer for immediate printing. This results
in wasted paper and toner when printing is forgotten and
not collected. It also presents a security risk if those
forgotten jobs were sensitive or confidential.
PaperCut print release provides a simple solution that
places jobs in a holding state until the user authenticates
and releases the job at the printer.
Users may select individual jobs to release or have jobs
automatically print after successful authentication.
7. Fast release
The Fast Release solution works as follows:
• The user prints to hold/release queue or a global
virtual print queue, where jobs are held awaiting
release.
• The user walks up to the printer and presents their
identity card to the USB card reader attached to the
Fast Release Terminal.
• Compatible USB Keyboards and PIN Pads can be
used to enable user authentication via user ID
number.
• PaperCut validates the user's credentials and
releases their jobs to the adjacent printer.
Editor's Notes
We want to show more than MF as often resellers come across customers that say they have PaperCut already. It’s often NG, Views or even Print Logger.
The idea for a reseller would be to explore further and explain the portfolio and how they’re different.

Question in Absorb –
Why is Watermarking useful?
Answer in Absorb:
Watermarking helps to protect the life of the document after it has been printed by placing text on the page identifying the person who printed it or some other identifying feature.

Bates numbering (also known as Bates stamping, Bates branding, Bates coding or Bates labeling) is used in the legal, medical, and business fields to place identifying numbers and/or date/time-marks on images and documents as they are scanned or processed, for example, during the discovery stage of preparations for trial or identifying business receipts. Bates stamping can be used to mark and identify images with copyrights by putting a company name, logo and/or legal copyright on them. This process provides identification, protection, and automatic consecutive numbering of the images.
