A musical staff
consists of five
lines and four
spaces.

 A clef is a sign placed
at the beginning of a
musical staff to tell
the pitch of the notes.

 There are two (2)
kinds of clef:
1) Treble Clef / G Clef
2) Bass Clef / F Clef

The Treble Clef or
G Clef assigns the
note G to a line
on the staff.

 The Bass Clef or F Clef
looks like an inverted
letter C and assigns the
note F on the line on
the staff.

The length of time
wherein a note is
played is called
note duration.

 The whole
note has the
longest
duration with
4 beats.

 The half note
has the half
duration of the
whole note
with 2 beats.

 Two half notes
take up the
same amount
of time as one
whole note.

 A quarter note
has one-fourth
the duration of
a whole note
with 1 beat.

 Four quarter notes
take up the same
amount of time as
one whole note.
 Two quarter notes
take up the same
amount of time as
one half note.

 The time signature is
represented by two numbers
wherein the number on top
indicates the number of beats in
each measure.

 The first measure is 4
4.
 The second measure is 3
4.
