4. Know the course and study hard before the race begins.
Long races are difficult to marshal, and it is often up to the race
participant to understand the course and know where they are going.
At a minimum, athletes should study the race map. That being said, it
can be quite beneficial to drive or bike the full course as often as
possible.

5. Mechanical issues are another common problem.
It doesn’t matter how fit you are if your bike experiences a
mechanical issue, such as trouble with the tires or chain. Consider
having your bike checked over by a professional before any race.

6. Not training and preparing for your transitions in the race can cause
major problems on race day.
Practice putting on and taking off your swim cap and goggles, running
just after a long bike ride, and putting on and buckling your bike
helmet. Quick transitions could end up saving you valuable seconds
and help keep you cool and calm on race day.
