For more than a decade, Eye Associates of New Mexico and
NextGen Healthcare have enjoyed a strong partnership that has
helped Eye Associates become one of the largest comprehensive
eye care practices in the U.S. In fact, since 2004, when Eye
Associates began partnering with NextGen Healthcare, the
practice has grown steadily and has expanded its primary and
specialty eye care reach to numerous communities across
the state.
Specialty templates simplify work
The ability to customize templates with NextGen®
Ambulatory
EHR, while tying them to underlying system templates, enabled
the practice to expand its offerings, while also contributing
to the expansion of Eye Associates. “We have a combination
of 50 ophthalmologists and optometrists, with optometrists
providing primary eye care services, ophthalmologists providing
a full spectrum of eye care, and specialists performing a variety
of surgeries. Each of them require different templates,” said
Rosita Marquez, Senior Project Manager, Eye Associates of New
Mexico. “When we began to customize, we created a template
for specific sub-specialties. We don’t customize by provider, only
sub-specialty, and we've reduced the number of templates to
further simplify and standardize them for the providers.”
Better communication drives greater efficiencies
With 50 providers serving 15 locations, efficient communication
between offices, providers, staff, and patients is paramount to
Eye Associates. “The benefits from using NextGen solutions
include more timely communication and EHR workflow
tasking,” added Lee Werner, CIO, Eye Associates of New

A transparent practice for patients
Thousands of daily patient visits can strain even the most robust

doctor, you didn't know what they were writing down; you didn't
know what your specific diagnosis was, you couldn't understand
