At Jewish Family & Children’s Service (JFCS), healthcare
reporting requirements – along with growing data sharing needs
– make a customizable electronic health record system (EHR)

points for population health management, improve clinical

Having information at caregivers’ fingertips helps JFCS deliver
better care. “Before NextGen, we tracked patient data manually;
I’m certain we often missed things. With NextGen, we have the
tools we need to document quickly and accurately, to deliver
better quality care, to efficiently track and follow up with patients,
and to achieve improved contract compliance,” explains Scott.
Integrating behavioral and physical healthcare
In behavioral health (BH), chronic health problems are often
not well treated – that’s one reason legislation is pushing
integration across healthcare. “Because NextGen has expertise
in physical healthcare, as well as 25+ other specialties, we don’t
have to worry whether our EHR will successfully integrate within
the new primary care clinic we’re opening within one of our
BH clinics. NextGen is a superb choice for worry-free
integration,” says Scott.

Tracking, assessing, and reporting on BH outcomes
BH providers are contractually required to perform comprehensive
assessments, re-evaluate treatment plans, and offer new patient
appointments during specific timeframes. “With NextGen we
are able to report and give monitoring tools to managers.
As a result we have successfully achieved rates of 95% treatment
plan completion and 96% assessment completion within 30 days,
exceeding our contract requirement of 85% for both measures,”
says Scott.
In addition, JFCS has successfully attested for MU1 and is now
ramping up for MU2. “NextGen has 100% of what we need to
be completely certified,” says Scott.
Saving time and gaining time
“We’re spending less time re-working and re-submitting
claims because NextGen Practice Management helps us achieve
a terrific first-time adjudication rate – well into the 90s,” reports
Scott. What’s more, JFCS patients successfully use NextGen
Patient Portal for faster patient-to-provider communication,
easier appointment requests, and quick reminders.
In addition, JFCS is launching a pilot to integrate NextPen
Solutions, a tool that takes handwritten information and
automatically converts it to discrete data. “In our new BH clinic,
we’re going to use this ‘magic pen’ to streamline and accelerate
patient data capture in our waiting room. This pen will be fantastic
for gathering information, both in our offices and from patients’
homes, particularly when it’s patient-survey-related data for
grant-funded programs,” explains Scott
