Rules and format
 Written quiz
 25 questions, 32 points
 1-18 worth one point each
 19-25 worth two points each
 Stars awarded if you get both parts of a two point
question right. These will settle ties.
 Top 8 teams qualify for the finals
 Quizmaster is God, but you may call him RJD
Let’s be under way!
1. ID X and Y
 X naturally occurred in two shades: white, and purple.
 Cross breeding the white X with the purple one gave
rise to a wider colour spectrum for X.
 One of these colours, was Y.
 The Dutch Prince William I of the Y-Nassau Dynasty
and his family took a liking to Y coloured Xs for obvious
reasons.
 X = carrot
 Y = Orange
2. Connect the bird with the shrimp.
 Flamingos become pink by eating these
brine shrimp
3. ID X and Y
 X when translated to English could mean negative,
passive, female, the moon, shady, covert, etc.
 In contrast, Y could mean positive, active, masculine,
the sun, open, overt, worldly, etc.
What are X and Y, which almost always occur together?
 Yin and Yang
4. What is this famous 26/2/2015
phenomenon?
 An explanation for the difference in perception between different
people was that:
 People who spent more time outdoors were used to there being
more blue in the light they are used to seeing, and hence any blue
in the picture was simply dismissed by them as having originated in
the ambient light.
 People who spend more time indoors, under artificial lighting are
used to longer wavelengths being more common in the ambient
light. Hence, they assumed the source of the reds and yellows in
the picture to be from the lighting and not from the subject.
 What is this phenomenon that is being perceived differently by
people?
5. ID X and Y
 The empennage, also known as the X of an aircraft is
a structure that provides flight stability the same way
as feathers at the end of an arrow stabilize the flight of
the same.
 Y is a Dutch sports company that specializes in tennis
equipment and equipment for alpine skiing. Famous
tennis players that use Y equipment are Maria
Sharapova, Novak Djokovic and Andy Murray. Its logo
is shown above.
 X and Y are “two shades” of something.
 X = tail
 Y = head
6. Here is a list of qualities of X and Y, when
compared to each other. What are X and Y?
X
 Social
 Outgoing
 More energetic
 Follows rules
 Happier
Y
• Introverted
• Higher IQ
• More sensitive
• Neurotic
• Open minded
• Philosophical
 X = dog people
 Y = cat people
7. ID X and what was the cause?
 In May 2017, X in Australia refused to sell
two ice cream scoops of the same shade
as a protest for a cause. What was this
cause, and what is X?
 X = Ben and Jerry’s
 Cause = They wanted gay marriage to be
legalised
8. This is the explanation for the
absence of what?
 In blackbody radiation, the temperature of the body
determines the wavelength of light that is emitted in
greatest quantity. However significant quantities of
light with wavelengths close to this are also emitted.
Thus, a star of low temperature emits a lot of infrared
light, which is invisible to human beings, along with a
significant amount of red light. Similarly, hot stars
emit a large proportion of invisible UV, with a
significant amount of blue light. Stars of intermediate
temperature emit visible light of all wavelengths.
 Green stars
9. Put funda
Reverse of a part of Stairway to Heaven
10. What pattern have the cells been
arranged in?
 To display its commitment towards ramping up
renewable energy resources, China has built a 250 acre
solar farm in Datong, which over the next 25 years is
expected to save about 1 million tonnes of coal. There
are two types of cells in this farm.
 Thin film cells: These cells are useful in low light
conditions.
 Monocrystalline silicon cells: These cells are more
efficient than the above in bright light due to the
presence of more silicon. This makes the cell quite dark,
and hence not very efficient in low light.
11. ID X and Y
 In electrical and mechanical trades, each pair of
fasteners is assigned the designation of X or Y.
Examples of these fasteners/connectors are plugs,
sockets, jacks, nuts, bolts, etc.
 This classification can even be applied to Lego bricks,
with the connectors at the bottom being of type X and
the connectors on top being of type Y.
 Some connectors have been classified into X and Y on
the next slide.
X type Y type
 X = female
 Y = male
12 The flag on top is easy to identify,
identify the one below.
 Reverse side of the same
13. WTGW?
 Commonly mistaken to mean a single species, this word
actually can refer to three species and a variety of
subspecies. All these species described by this word
have the ability to cause motion dazzle to observers via
two optical illusions, ie the wagonwheel effect and the
barberpole illusion.
 Their bodies reflect light in such a way as to disrupt its
polarization, thus dazzling the bloodsucking tsetse fly
and hence keep them away.
 Zebra

famous song. Name the parody and the
band performing it. Both these names are
puns on the name of the original track and
the band that performed it.
 Hotel Keralafonia
 The Yeagles
16. This is the translated (and
decoded) version of what?
 You let everyone fuck you but you say no to me
 You roam around in the skimpiest dresses
 You burn your father’s money
 For these reasons _____
 I will try my luck with you tonight
 I want to fuck you
 _____________________
 Should I flap your boobs
 Will you like a thrust

17. Put funda
 Virtuous characters have pure green faces.
 Evil characters have red faces. A red beard implies
excessive evilness.
 Green faced characters with red dots or red moustaches
are largely good, but have evil inner natures.
 Hunters, forest dwellers and middle characters have
black faces, while forest dwelling demons and
demonesses have black faces with red spots.
 Monks, mendicants and women have yellow faces.
 Divine beings such as Hanuman have white beards
 Kathakali face colour
18. ID the 2007 comedy film
 Synopsis: The film begins with a narration of the
story as told by Miguel de Cervantes, but the narrator
is interrupted by the donkey Rucio (Luis Posada)
who insists on telling the "true" story of the
adventure.
 Rucio in the movie resembles Donkey fro the Shrek
Series, and this resemblance is intentional, as you
will see in the next slide.
 The name of the film is a pun on the original
Cervantes story.
Two pointers (Starred)
19. ID D and B
 D and B are two types of X, whose label
also indicate the first letters of the same.
Ds are found in the Arab region, while Bs
are found in Central Asia. Rotating the
letters D and B by 90 degrees is an
effective way of remembering the
characteristics of Xs that distinguish
between Ds and Bs.
Dromedary and Bactrian camels
20. ID X and Y
 X is made by adding bacteria such as Lactobacillus to
milk, which causes a chemical change. X is consumed
raw, sweetened or eaten as an accompaniment. It is a
rich source of vitamin B12 and probiotics.
 Y is made by causing a chemical change to milk by
decreasing its pH by adding acidic substances such as
lemon juice or vinegar. This separates the milk into
whey and casein, and the whey is drained away. It is a
good source of calcium.
 X = Yoghurt
Y = Curd
21. ID X and Y
 Xs and Ys are very similar in that they both share a poor sense of
right and wrong, manipulative tendencies and they both lack
empathy. However, there are some key differences.
 Xs have no conscience and poor emotions, however they are very
good at pretending to have emotions and empathy, which they use
to play along and not get found out. While watching scenes of
blood and violence in movies, they get calmer. This helps them
engage in risky behaviour without fearing the consequences of
their actions.
 Ys have a poor conscience, but that doesn’t stop them from
committing morally wrong acts. They are unable to mimic
emotions like Xs. They may feel a bit of guilt or remorse for their
actions.
 X: Psychopath
 Y: Sociopath
22. ID X and Y (root word)
 To be an X is to be a member of a state. Having an X
is crucial for receiving full recognition under
International Law. Everyone has the right to an X and
cannot be denied the right to change his/her X
 Y is a much narrower concept; a specific legal
relationship between a person and a state. It gives the
person certain rights and responsibilities.
 Y need not accompany X. For example, in some Latin
American countries such as Mexico, a person acquires
X at birth, but Y only upon turning 18.
 X: Nationality
 Y: Citizenship
23 ID X and Y
 X: This refers to biological differences, chromosomes,
hormonal profiles, internal, and external organs. You
cannot identify yourself with any X you like. Unless
you perform medical treatment, your X is what you’re
born with.
 Y describes the characteristics that a society
delineates on the basis of X. However, a member of
any X can decide to identify as any Y, from the entire
available spectrum. Ys outside the spectrum may
even include attack helicopters.
 X: Sex
 Y: Gender
24. ID X and Y, which have rather
similar spellings.
 X, also known as spirits is an alcoholic beverage such
as gin, whiskey, rum, vodka, etc made by fermentation
followed by distillation. They are not sugary sweet and
have at least 20% alcohol content.
 Y, also known as cordial is a sweetened spirit with
various flavours, oils and extracts infused into a base X.
They have 15 to 55% alcohol content. Flavours of Ys
can range from coffee to almond to orange. They can
contain crème. They are used for making cocktails.
 X = liquor
 Y = liqueur
25. ID X and Y
 X and Y are two English words that are easily confused for
one another.
 X is the anxiety and fear that one feels when one anticipates
a frightening ordeal. Hence, the feeling of X precedes the
event.
 Y is the feeling of revulsion that one feels after experiencing
a traumatic ordeal.
 According to Devendra Varma,
The difference between X and Y is the difference between
awful apprehension and sickening realization: between the
smell of death and stumbling against a corpse
 X = Terror
 Y = Horror
Finalists will be announced in
10 minutes. Stay put!

  • 19. 8. This is the explanation for the absence of what?  In blackbody radiation, the temperature of the body determines the wavelength of light that is emitted in greatest quantity. However significant quantities of light with wavelengths close to this are also emitted. Thus, a star of low temperature emits a lot of infrared light, which is invisible to human beings, along with a significant amount of red light. Similarly, hot stars emit a large proportion of invisible UV, with a significant amount of blue light. Stars of intermediate temperature emit visible light of all wavelengths.
