4. WHAT IS OCCUPATIONAL HEALTH
AND SAFETY?
“Occupational Health and Safety
(OHS) – refers to the legislation,
policies, procedures and activities
that aim to protect the health,
safety and welfare of all people at
the workplace.”
5. An OHS Policy is simply a method of stating how you, your
employees, contractors and visitors are expected to behave
when they are on Company property or performing Company
related activities. As an employer or responsible contractor, you
are required by law to provide a ‘safe system of work’.
6.
7. Here is the list of the 12 Occupational
Health and Safety Policies.
1. Do not work alone so that there’s someone who can take care
of you in case of an emergency.
2. Always power off the computer and unplug the computer before
working on it.
3. Take away any liquid near your working area to avoid getting
electrocuted or accidentally damaging computer parts.
4. Be careful with tools that may cause a short circuit.
8. 5. Always ground or discharge yourself before touching any
part of the computer.
6. Do not use excessive force if things don’t quite slip into
place.
7. Clean the area before and after using it to maintain sanitation
and prevent accidents
8. Hold the components on the edges and do not touch the
Integrated Circuit (IC) parts.
9. 9. Always wear personal protective equipment (PPE) in
accordance with the organization’s OHS procedures and
practices.

12. DEFINITION:
Reduce - Reducing means choosing to use things with care to reduce the amount
of waste generated.
Reuse - Reusing involves the repeated use of items or parts of items which still
have usable aspects.
Recycle - Recycling means the use of waste itself as resources. Waste
minimization can be achieved in an efficient way by focusing primarily on the
first of the 3Rs, "reduce," followed by "reuse" and then "recycle."
15. Reduce: One of the best ways to help the environment is to
reduce the amount of waste you produce!
Examples:
Decluttering – Some of us have a bad habit of throwing away things when we are
decluttering or spring cleaning our homes, work spaces, and garages.
Work place – Print on both sides to reduce how many pages you print.
16. Reuse: Instead of using one-time use items, like plastic water bottles or plastic grocery
bags, for a reusable option.
Work place & School – Use both sides of writing paper. Create scratch paper for
reminders, notes, and important tasks by cutting paper into 4’s – this is a great way to use
up all the paper you can before recycling it.
17. Recycle: Recycling is beneficial in so many ways. Not only are you preventing
recyclable items from ending up in landfill where it can take 100’s of years to
decompose, but you’re giving your recyclable item a chance to get made into something
else.
Inkjet Cartridges - More than 500 million printer cartridges are sold each year in the
United States, and more than half — 350 million of those — are sent to landfills.
Computers & Monitors - See if you can donate these items first. If not, many e-waste
programs offer curbside pick up or drop off locations that recycles these properly.
