Project
Project: provides premade actors and
animations which you can use and make
changes as needed. To use on of the build in
projects, simply double click on it to begin.

Actor: This is where you can customize some of
the actors or images provided, or you can
upload your own. You can either use full body
or head shot, and you can also mix and match
heads and body types.

In this Learning Object, we will
be uploading our own image and
combine it with one of the built-
in body. To begin click on the
upload image icon, click Import
Image, and search your
computer to find your image.

After the image is uploaded into CrazyTalk, we will now crop
the image to use only the head, click next when you are done.

It’s a good practice to
use images with a
transparent background.
Use software like
Photoshop to remove
background from images,
and upload it for the
animation.

We will now identify
the location of the
mouth and eyes, and
click Next when done.

parts of the face in detail.
Click OK when done. All
facial features
identification is done by
the software; you will
correct them if they are in
the wrong place.

Now we have a head that can be animated. We
will continue to add a body to the image. If you
prefer to use your own, use the import to add a
body. In this tutorial we will select a body.

Now we will add some animation to the created
actor. Preloaded animations include Motions, Face
expressions, Perform and Action Menu. Select the
animations that will fit your animation project.

Scene
We will now add a scene to our animation. Click on
Scene, and select a built in scene or upload your own.
Under the scene, you can add more images and props.

To add content, click on Special FX, and select Text. Let’s add our content “My
Name Is Richard Osei. My background is in Computer Science and

Below the text area, be sure to select the voice options available. Also
set the pitch and speed as you see fit. Preview it, and click OK.

After adding the content, we will now add some objects to appear
during a specific time in the animation. These objects add more visual
to the stage. For example, show a light bulb for discovered idea.

After making all the changes as you see fit, click on
Export. Use the Preview button at the bottom to
view the animation. Click Export if no new changes
are required.

Finally, select the location to save
your animation, give it a name and
click Save.

The use of animation allows students to connect the content
and visuals forming a lasting effect and deeper understanding
of the topic. In a research study by Zahra (2016), that explored
the effectiveness of animations on students’ learning, students
were found easier to recall images rather than plain text, and
the lessons were also easily understood.
