An ex-christian?

“They went out from us,but they did not reallybelongto us. For if they had belongedto us,they
wouldhave remainedwith us; but their goingshowedthat none of them belongedto us.” (1 John
2:19).
ThisScripture makesitclearthat there isno such thingas an ex-Christian.If apersonistrulya Christian,
he or she will neverdepartfromthe faith “…foriftheyhad belongedtous, they wouldhave remained
with us…” If a personwhoclaimedtobe a Christiandeniesthe faith,he orshe wasnot trulya Christian.
“…theirgoing showedthat none of thembelongedto us.” No,there istrulyno such thingas an ex-
Christian.Thereforesimplystated,apersonis eitheraChristianora NonChristian…there isnohalfway
mark to be termedas an Ex Christian!
It isimportantto distinguishbetweenatrue Christianandan “in name only”Christian.A true Christianis
a personwhohas fullytrustedinJesusChristalone forsalvation. He orShe understandswhatthe Bible
saysabout sin,sin’spenalty,whoJesusis,whatJesusdidforus,andhow that providesforthe
forgivenessof sin.A true Christianisa personwhohasreceivedJesusChristaspersonal Savior,hasbeen
made a new creation:“Therefore, ifanyone isin Christ,the new creationhas come. The old hasgone,
the new ishere! (2 Corinthians5:17). We can alsoknow that whenone isinChrist,he or she is
progressivelybeingtransformedintothe image of Christ.
A true Christianisa personwhoiskepta Christianbythe powerof the HolySpirit:“…until weall reach
unityin the faith andin the knowledgeof the Son of Godandbecome mature, attainingto the whole
measure of the fullnessofChrist”(Ephesians4:13).The True Christianis constantly builtupthroughthis
powerof the Holy Spirit.We can alsolearn:“Anddo not grieve the Holy Spiritof God,with whomyou
were sealedfor the dayof redemption”(Ephesians4:30).Furtherto thisteaching,we canlearnthat He
has: “…sethisseal of ownershiponus, and put hisSpiritin our hearts as a deposit,guaranteeingwhat
is to come” (2 Corinthians1:22). Therefore atrue Christiancanneverbecome anex-Christian. Because
no one whohas trulyand fullytrustedinChristasone’s Savior,couldeverdenyHim.Noone whotruly
comprehendsthe evil of sin,the terrorof sin’sconsequences,the love of Christ,andthe grace and
mercyof God, couldeverturnback fromthe Christianfaith.
There are manyinthis world thatclaimto be Christians,but many are far fromit andare for name sake
only. CallingoneselfaChristiandoesnotmean simply recognizingthatJesuswasa great teacheror as
some like toproclaim, thattheyare “eagerto follow”Histeachings. A Christianmeansbeingahighly
dependablerepresentative of Christanda follower/servantof Christ.There are people whohave had
some connectiontoa “Christianchurch”and thenlaterrenouncedthatconnection.There are people
whosay that thru have “tasted”and “sampled”JesusChrist,withouteveractuallyreceivingHimas
Saviorand latermovingawayinsearchof otheroption.
We can nevercall them“ex Christians”because there isnosuchthingastrue ex-Christian. A Christianis
a “faithful believer”inChrist.If one movesawayfrom FaithinChrist,he or she fallstothe categoryof

2. “non believer”justlikemanyothersfrom, differentreligiousbackgrounds. A true Christianwill never,
and couldnever,renounce the faith. Therefore,anyperson whoclaimedtobe a Christian,butlater
rejectsthe Christianfaith,wasnevertrulyaChristianandtherefore he orshe fallstothe categoryof a
“NonBeliever”!We canlearnfrom 1 John2:19, “Theywent out fromus, but they didnot really belong
