Future leaders are what we believe in today to shape tomorrow, but most people lack a definite purpose and have forgotten this. Refiloe Mushi discusses how the youth of South Africa have been programmed from a young age to not think for themselves or rely on their own ideas and beliefs. This has led to limiting beliefs, lack of confidence, and dependence on empty government promises rather than creating their own opportunities. She encourages the youth to know what they want, focus on it, develop self-reliance, and use their own thoughts given by God rather than seeking approval from others.
1. Future Leaders
Future leaders are what we believe in today.
Most of us tend not to know the direction that
we are heading to. Most of us have forgotten
that life without definite purpose is life
without a key to success.
I Refiloe Mushi, a lady from township called Alexandra
have seen what the environmental influences that are
that cause the youth to forget about their future and live
for today, forgetting that tomorrow comes with the
outcomes of today. Yet today is what we should build
with focus for tomorrow. It is a great tragedy that most
youth have fallen into the trap called lifestyle, not
2. understanding that lifestyle is only proper when you
have acquired what you always wanted from a definite of
purpose.
Why do most youth have limiting beliefs?
We were taught only to make credits in schools and
universities and learn to memorize. That made individuals
not to be able to think on their own in terms of learning
what they want in life. We were programmed from
generation to generation by the educational system that
what the professorās or Authors wrote in the books we
read is the only precise information, also what we find on
the internet through research. Therefore thatās what we
should follow and that what is right. This still makes most
of us to lack self-reliance and believe in our own
thoughts, because if you follow sanction of people you
are letting people control you, and subdue your thinking.
3. Then you end up having fear of criticism and lack of self-
confidence.
We as the youth of tomorrow, we were also
programmed to believe that we do not deserve to
live a luxury life but a life of poverty.
We as the youth have been programmed from birth
not to use our own mind. That creates non self-
reliance, lack of confidence and fear towards
achieving what we want.
Fear is the greatest device towards failure. Most
people donāt realize that there is temporary defeat
and failure. If people understood the difference
many of us would not quit and become failures.
Defeat comes with it an opportunity of one to be
able to use their own mind when looking into
alternatives.
Fear has also made the youth to escape challenges
through the usage of drugs, alcohol, sex and social
media. Most youth have forgotten to use their own
mind, they have decided to throw away into trash
what God has given them into their hands when
4. they were born, but I do not blame them because
this started with their elders. They were not taught
to know what they want in order to achieve it
instead they were taught to go to school and
universities and get well-paying jobs. That crushed
oneās dream.
South Africa is filled with depression. People donāt
realize that television and radio stations that we
listen to tend to depress us.
Most youth tend to depend on the government for
job opportunities, but those are empty promises.
The truth is we the youth have a waiting mentality
and habit of waiting.
Let us work towards creating our own jobs and
opportunities. Every single day is filled with
opportunities only if you focus on the positive
aspects of life.
The government wonāt create jobs for us instead it
will make us wait for what they have been
promising for years.
5. Ask yourself, why we have been taught to believe
that education can only lead us to success while our
previous leaders havenāt been to school.
Know what you want and focus on it!
Let us use our own thoughts, let us develop self-
reliance and perseverance. Do not expect approval
from anyone, believe in what you want and use
your own given thoughts by God.
