This day serves as an opportunity to
spotlight the impact of AmeriCorps
and Senior Corps and to thank those
that serve. On this day mayors will
hold public events and use traditional
and social media to highlight the value
and impact of national service on our
cities.
5. The Challenge:
Create a 10-15 second video highlighting your work with the
AmeriCorps Program (HandsOn Tech, CORPS 18, or Financial
Opportunity Corps).
***Talk about your work through AmeriCorps and share your
real thoughts (respectfully , of course). Be honest and
passionate to your real opinions of why serving in AmeriCorps
is worth it to you!***

Why a Day of Recognition? Mayors…
Are solution-focused local elected officials
Their engagement of citizens to meet local needs matches CNCS’s mission
to improve lives, strengthen communities, and foster civic engagement
Their goals directly align with CNCS’s priority on expanding economic
opportunity to create sustainable and resilient communities
Last year more than 800 mayors across the country participated in
Mayors Day of Recognition.

10. Contact your CNCS State Director’s Office
Determine who is organizing Mayor’s Day in your city
Reach out to CNCS State Director’s Office coordinator for Mayor’s Day of
Recognition
Determine if your mayor is participating
Identify the type of event or day of service taking place
Offer to support the day’s event by:
o Attending a mayoral proclamation presentation
o Participating in city wide service project
o Posting your service video on your site’s website
o Using social media to tell how national service is impacting your
community

• Once you’ve finished uploading the video, the site will alert
you that the “File has finished uploading”

After all the videos are uploaded to the Dropbox, they will be
downloaded and cut together into one video themed “Why I
serve…”
We would also encourage you to use your videos on your own
social media accounts both personal and at your site to
promote AmeriCorps and Mayor’s Day of Recognition for
National service.
