Visual Merchandising & Display
I have extensive experience creating unique visual retail
displays. The most significant challenge is working with
different styles and eras of vintage pieces.
The photo to the left displays some modern chrome arm chairs
that work well with the original paintings by Joel Henriques, a
local Portland artist.
Below are some other samples of my experience in visual
merchandising, working with different styles and periods by
using color and accessories to tie them together.
About the Cover - Pair of DUX Arm Chairs in Red
These chairs were in desperate need of restoration when we found them. I
managed this project that required sourcing parts, contracting a caning expert
and an upholsterer.
The image is actually two photographs – one of each chair. The photos
required cropping, color balance & digital fusing to create the final image.

Functional Retail Design Using Salvaged Materials
Wine Bottle Ceiling Chandelier
Tasked to create a hanging chandelier using salvaged parts. The process
included gluing, refinishing and staining the wine barrel lid, then cutting,
sanding, and grinding the bottles to a smooth bevel edge. I wired them to
a safe box on top and finished it with chains hanging from the ceiling.
Perfect in both residential and commercial applications.
Retail Wall Cubes
Using old pine boxes, I removed the backs to tie in the wall color, and
then painted them white. Cubes are anchored onto the walls to
prevent damage. Cubes can also be retrofitted to use on slat board
walls.
Spotlight Ceiling Platform
I chose two salvaged hollow core closet doors as the platform
because they were extremely lightweight, making them easy to hang.
I painted them gray to match the ceiling color, then added 6 modern
spotlights. These spotlights plugged into a surge protector on top
that ran directly to a ceiling plug.

Salvaged & Repurposed Product Designs
Salvaged Hardwood Flooring to Coffee Table
Taking planks of salvaged old hardwood flooring, I mounted
it to a wood slab, then added a set of hairpin legs. To finish
it, I painted the wood slab edge to match the black finish on
the legs and then hand oil rubbed the top.
Coca Cola Lighted Vanity Wall Mirror
So many ideas came to mind when I came across this Coca Cola crate. Finally,
I settled for this unique piece. I added a mirror and a solid back to attach the
wall mounting hardware. Then finished it off with an antique brass socket and
twisted rayon wiring. It was sold to a pub in London.

Restoration & Project Management
Unfortunately, every piece sold didn’t arrive in the same condition as it went
out. These are some samples of restoration projects that required more than
what our staff could do and showcase my project management experience
working with upholsterers, vendors, and customers to produce a custom
piece.
The armchair was originally black vinyl, but the seat was torn. I opted to bring
some contrast to it by using white vinyl with the existing black arms. The red
loveseat was purple fur. I had seen the red fabric a week earlier, and knew it
was the right color and texture for this piece. The blue gondola sofa was
yellow and brown plaid when we first purchased it. I chose the bolster fabric
to contrast the large blue surface. I found these chrome table bases, used a
router to cut and bevel the finished birdseye maple tops.

Photography, Editing, and Display Advertising
I am tasked weekly with photographing new products the business has acquired. I then edit
each photo including cropping, adjusting color balance, and touching up imperfections. Finally, I
write product copy and layout for online listings.
I like to take photos that express unique perspectives of the piece. To the left is a wood owl
sculpture made of Oregon Myrtlewood. I wanted to capture the vibrancy of the eyes against the
smooth textured wood. BeIow, left is a metal table sculpture of a Lillypad showcasing the
natural geometric shape. Below right is a unique Zebrawood jewelry box. It has slide out lids
that reveal other hidden compartments.
These are some sample advertisements I created for Shag
including a holiday display ad for the Mercury newspaper. I wanted
to capture the element of surprise when opening a Christmas gift
while featuring an available product line.
To the right is an colorful panel advertisement used for an annual
calendar inspired by early 20th Century artist, Piet Mondrain.
