Rhetoric
Throughout the course of the semester,
rhetoric has played a huge role in each of
our assignments. Ball defines rhetoric as,
“The study of making texts that effectively
persuade the audience toward change.”
Individually, I was able to use rhetoric
writing within my resume/visual resume. I
used it as a tool to grasp future employers
attention as well as express my personality
through my style of writing. By doing so
employers were able to distinguish my
work from the work of others.
Introduction
During the car mobile app assignment,
my group was able to use rhetoric
language to persuade owners of a
2007 Ford Mustang to download and
use the app in place of a hard copy
manual. We used simple language to
reach all audiences and to create an
overall clean-cut app.
Ultimately, Technical Writing has
taught me how to use rhetoric
language in a professional and
practical manner.

Writing
Writing is an important aspect in
Technical Writing. However, in this case
writing is used to communicate with the
audience. It is crucial to use simple
language in order for each individual to
fully understand. For example, in our
car mobile app proposal our goal was
to propose the uses of the app as well
as the benefits of using the app rather
than a hard copy manual. We were able
to do so by using a style of writing that
was easy to comprehend.

Design
The Marvel app incorporated the design
portion of the class. It was through
Marvel that we created an easy to use
car manual app. We initiated the
process by story boarding our ideas
and transferring those ideas into a fully
functional app. Ball focuses on the, “5
key design concept: emphasis,
contrast, organization, alignment and
proximity.” We used these concepts to
efficiently design our app. We can use
aspects of design not only in this class,
but also in the outside world.

Learning Outcomes
Collaboration
Collaboration was a key factor is this
Technical Writing course. The class
worked in groups for a majority of the
semester, so working as a team and
relying on others to complete and
submit assignments was crucial. As a
organizational mechanism, each group
created a project management
schedule in order to keep track of each
person’s contributions.
Collaborating with a team provides
essential qualities we, as students, need to
better prepare us for the future. In reality we
will always work along side others whether
it be in class activities, in the workplace or
during everyday situations. It is our job to
collaborate with the consideration of others
in mind. Technical Writing provides us with
the skills we need to collaborate effectively
and efficiently.
7. 7
Ethics
Learning Outcomes
The concept of being an ethical
writer primarily stems from
honesty. Doing and submitting
your own work is an ethical form of
integrity. It also allows the
audience to view your work as a
raw representation of yourself.
Plagiarism and copyright is illegal
and consequences for these
actions are serious. Technical
Writing has taught me how to write
and create my own work in a way
that excludes stealing works from
others.

Cultural Considerations
Learning Outcomes
The ability to properly communicate
with the audience regardless of their
culture is important in Technical Writing.
The audience members vary by age,
gender and race. Therefore, being able
to communicate visually as well as
verbally can greatly benefit any project.
For example, the car manual app
needing testing. Our group brought in
individuals at random to test the app
and its functions. The individuals we
brought in varied in age, gender and
race.
They were all able to test the app and
follow basic instructions, because the
app was made simple. The pictures
corresponded with the information
presented in the app and we received
positive feedback from all of our
usability testers. Cultural considerations
are necessary to for these specific
reasons. It is our goal through Technical
Writing to relate to every audience, and
this class has definitely better prepared
me for that.
9. Applied Technology
9
Learning Outcomes
As a result from this course, I am
now able to apply the means of
technology I have learned and use
them in various situations. I have
leaned how to use different tools in
word via my resume. I have also
learned how to create a mobile app
using the technology provided by
Marvel.
However, the most useful means of
technology was shown by creating
a successful marketing video. My
group and I generated a video to
try to present our car mobile app to
the Ford company. We used the
technology we learned throughout
the course and the outcome of the
video was highly successful.
11. Learning Outcomes
Technical Writing has
taught me how to use
rhetorical language, writing
and design to
communicate with the
audience effectively. It has
also better prepared me to
collaborate with others as
well as apply technology
into any given situation.
