Beit Midrash Derech Chaim is a four-year program that combines full-time Torah study with technology studies and military service. The program aims to train Torah scholars who will strengthen Israeli society by bridging religious and secular groups. Students spend two years studying Talmud, halacha, and Jewish philosophy, and two years serving in the IDF intelligence units while utilizing skills learned from technology and cyber defense courses. The goal is to provide a model for living a life of Torah with commitment to both spiritual and material needs through military service, employment, and remaining part of the yeshiva community.
2. OurMission
“The name of Heaven should be made beloved by
your actions.”
Beit Midrash Derech Chaim seeks to fashion a Torah scholar who will dedicate
himself towards service to, and the building of, the State of Israel. He will seek
to bridge the gap between the religious and secular, and strengthen the fabric
of Israeli society through his significant contributions of Torah study, military
service and integration into the work force. He will model the beauty of a
Torah lifestyle and provide an example of uncompromising service to Hashem
that is relevant and inspiring to every Jew.
OurProgramOffers
Beit Midrash Derech Chaim has been approved by the Ministry of Defense
and the IDF, as the first institution in Israel to offer a program of study that will
provide both the tools to become Torah scholars and the skills necessary to
contribute significantly through military service and gainful employment.
4YearsOfGrowth
Two years of full-day Beit Midrash study, leading to expertise in Talmud study,
with a focus on practical halacha, breadth of knowledge and exposure to
Jewish philosophical thought. Evening classes are devoted to the study of
technology, particularly in the field of Cyber Defense.
Two years of prestigious military service in the Intelligence units, utilizing the
skills gained over the first two years.
TechnologyStudies
One thousand hours of pre-army technology studies, utilizing a curriculum
developed and approved by the Jerusalem College of Technology (Machon
Lev), the IDF Intelligence Unit and the National Cyber Department. The
classes are taught by JCT professors and are accredited towards degree
study.
Classes focus on the study of Cyber Defense (Systems Security) as per the
request of the IDF. This will help fill a pressing need of the Israeli army, whose
technology units are dangerously understaffed. In addition, it will provide
students with excellent opportunities for smooth entry into the Israeli work
force.
ALifeOfTorahAndService
Beit Midrash Derech Chaim provides for its students not only a program of
study but a way of life. ‘Derech Chaim’, literally the ‘Way of Life’, imbues its
students with the ability to integrate into modern society while keeping a
commitment to Torah study and strict Halacha observance at the center
of their lives. Over the entire four years students will reinforce this model of
combining attention to both their spiritual and material needs, by remaining
an integral part of the Yeshiva even while involved in secular studies or while
serving in the IDF. The Beit Midrash Derech Chaim student will thus be well
positioned to have the name of Hashem become beloved through his actions.
