understand what he/she was doing at the time of
crime . Forensic psychiatry is guided by
significant court law which include the following
three standards:-

virtue of a defect of reason or disease of the
mind . Doesn’t know the nature and quality of the
act ,or if he does, doesn’t know the act is wrong.
Durham Rule :- Excuses a defendant whose
conduct is the product of mental D/S or defect.
He/She is not responsible for criminally.

Excuses a defendant because of a
mental D/S or defect , lack substantial
capacity to appreciate the criminality
(wrongfulness) of his conduct or to
Conform his conduct to the
requirement of law .

interviewing the victim

documents , the findings and also
provide emotional support for
victim’s family members .

NURSE -DEATH
INVESTIGATOR
A death investigator is a professional
with experience of scientific knowledge
who can accurately determine the
cause of death .
The FNDI is a registered nurse
with specialised education who is
functioning in the death
investigator role .
At the scene ,they examine the
body , take tissues and blood
samples. They take pictures of the
body and evidence at the scene .
