1. The full project implementation ofa self-designed and built Xeras models forthe Exxaro
Leeuwpan, Grootegeluk, NBC, Thabametsi, Belfast, UG Matla Coal mines . These
completed models replace the previous cumbersome typical mine Excel models. The
modelsform partofourcurrent mineral resources managementfocus and gives a seamless
integration of mine plan evaluation with Xpac.
The Xeras models are used extensively in the planning process to understand the impact
of projects and scenario changes on the financial costs. The models typically an take into
account Xpac scheduling info, plant algorithms, stockpiles, marketing info, the detail
primary and secondary mining fleet cost (with LCC costing) etc. and is used to evaluate
different scenarios with detail Financial cash flow statements.
Responsible for detail mine to plant throughput simulation models for Belfast mine,
Matla Mine and the new Grootegeluk Medupi mine expansion including backfilling and
discard strategies. All models are used to make decisions for pre and feasibility studies for
expansion projects and assist in design parameters and contract negotiations with the
power utility.
Involved with Hatch Associates Ltd of Canada in the simulation, with animation, of the
Saldanha Steel mini-mill processes, raw materials handling and warehousing operations.
The modelswereused to reflect the latest plant layout and the interaction of the proposed
Saldanha Steel Plant. Recommendations were made to ensure the expected production
levels and to establish and understand the dynamic interaction of major process units.
Responsible fora simulation model that willbe used to assist in the design of equipment
in the crushing and screening circuits for the Rosh Pinah mine.
1.
Responsible forasimulation model that was used to determine the Throughput capacity
(train off-loading and ship loading) of Saldanha Port facilities.
Responsible for a comprehensive financial model in Excel, representing the Saldanha
Steel business from economic, production, marketing parameters to a full set of financial
statements. This model is still currently utilised for forecasting, budgeting purposes and
is used to make executive management decisions regarding the economic viability of the
project for the respective shareholders.
Responsible as project manager for the optimisation project of the Iscor Mining
Ferrosillicon plant. The recommendations were based on the theory of constraints and
recommendations were made regarding the improvement of production processes and
increasing throughput.
Responsible for the economic evaluation of the RSA Iscor Coking coal business to
determine a long-term strategy of this business for Iscor.
Responsible for the economic evaluation of the Rosh Pinah mine, expansion project, as
used for the Bankable document.
Responsible for providing modelling expertise in the Iscor Value Network project. The
project objective is to investigate, map and model the total Value Network in order to
support the evaluation of company business decisions.
