of piety
• Attending Mass
• Praying the rosary
• Angelus
• Members of religious associations
• Wearing of medals and sacramentals etc
6. LIFE OF SAINTS MARTHA, MARY AND
LAZARUS
• Feast day is July 29th
• The story of Mary and Martha takes
place in Luke 10:38-42 and John
12:2.
7. St. Martha
Martha was active, enterprising, careful, and given
to exterior things.
She represents the active life.
Jesus teaches her to place those things which
directly regard God and eternity above exterior
works
St. Lazarus
• He was said to have become a bishop (first Bishop
of Kition ) on the island (Cyprus) and died there
peacefully 30 years later.
• He represents the supernatural life
8. St Mary
Mary became engrossed in all Jesus had to say.
She sat at his feet, listening attentively.
She represents the contemplative life
9. • The active life is the life of every day work/
physical activity
• The supernatural life is a life of prayer and
fellowship with God
• The contemplative life is a life of God’s grace
at work (the miraculous)
10. • Our lives should be a reflection of all three
lives
• Prayer, work and abandonment in God’s grace
• Prayer, work and God’s grace are a true
reflection of a life of interior piety.
