Physical Methods of Wastewater Treatment

  1. 1.  A prominent environmental engineering company based in the state of California, RMC Water and Environment has helped countless public agencies and local communities develop innovative solutions to their most pressing water needs. RMC Water and Environment specializes in wastewater treatment, which encompasses a broad range of processes that may be physical, biological, or chemical in nature. In physical treatment methods, the process of removing water contaminants is typically accomplished exclusively through physical forces.
  2. 2.  For example, one of the most common physical treatment methods, coarse screening, involves the removal of larger entrained objects from a wastewater sample. The sedimentation technique relies on the tendency of solids to settle at the bottom of solutions, which allows a wastewater sample to be “clarified” by extracting the top layer of solution. In the same vein, the lower densities of oils and greases allows them to float at the top of a wastewater sample, where they can be skimmed away and disposed.
