1. The concept of comparative management has become more important in recent years
because of the growing influence of multinational companies and global corporation.
MNCs are businesses that exercise strategic control over production and marketing
facilities in two or more countries. Global Corporation goes beyond MNCs by designing,
making and selling goods anywhere on the planet. Managers of all countries have to
carry out the basic managerial functions of planning, organizing, staffing, directing,
motivating and controlling but applications differ from country to country. Comparative
management therefore includes analyzing and comparing each environmental
determinant of the foreign country.
Besides these, diversities of the presence of different social, economic, political and legaltax systems; management practice has lot of diversities around the globe. After the
industrial revolution, enterprises of different countries were initially controlled under the
government. Very soon it was realized that the nationalized sector was not performing as
desired because of unsuccessful management practice. Since then, countries around the
world have been going through denationalization process. This tendency is also affecting
the practice of management. Nevertheless, different concepts and theories of different
countries regarding management have been being practiced by other countries. But it is
very difficult to say which type of management practice should be applicable for this or
that country because it vastly depends on the social, economic, political and legal-tax
systems of a country.
However, styles of management practiced by different countries may be different but its
ultimate target is to achieve the goal of sustainable economic development.
