What is The Resource Alert Project
(RAP)?

With a demo version currently available on
Google Play Store, The Resource Alert
Project will improve the ways we connect
resources to our families of youth. But
RAP must be more than a technology
product. It requires a broader effort to
engage and enrich our children if we are to
build brighter futures in a better Detroit
every day.

RAP is a powerful, practical “app” for
mobile devices (tablets, laptops and
personal computers too) that consistently
delivers important information about youth
and community resources to benefit
Detroit's young generation.
• Too many young people don’t know
what resources are available to them.
• Too many youth and community
resources don’t know about each other.
• Too many children fail to take
advantage of resources that can help
them succeed in school and life.
• Too few youth and community
resources collaborate for a greater
good.

The Resource
Alert Project?
How Will RAP Solve These
Problems?

Consistently communicate these
resources – and youth events,
programs, activities, etc. – to our
children, families and communities
using the RAP mobile “app”, along
with a variety of PR and outreach
initiatives, online products (websites,
web badges and e-newsletters), with
media / social media campaigns to
grow the RAP subscriber base.

Create a directory and growing
network of youth-serving individuals
and organizations in the Greater
Detroit Area. (Currently, the RAP
database contains more than 225
youth resources).

How Did We Get HERE?
Determined project need
Researched youth-serving resources in the Greater Detroit area
Developed an online directory with more than 225 Greater Detroit
youth resources
Engaged key individuals and groups to build team and momentum
• Hosting RAP sessions (community focus groups) to continue promoting, guiding and
advancing the project
• Meeting and building with potential stakeholders to form alliances to strengthen this effort
• Creating a scalable youth engagement and enrichment coalition model for other cities
