Epilepsy is a disorder characterized by seizures caused by sudden bursts of electrical activity in the brain. People with epilepsy are at high risk of physical injury during seizures due to loss of consciousness. The goals of treatment are to prevent physical injury during seizures, prevent or control seizure activity, and address any body image or family issues related to living with a chronic neurological condition.
