The document discusses developing a computerized system for Public Distribution System (PDS) in India. The current PDS system is manual and complex to manage customer applications and profiles. The proposed system will automate PDS activities including managing customer card data, distributor operations, and a complaint system. It will use Java/J2EE technologies and have modules for MROs, distributors, and customers to more efficiently monitor the distribution of food grains nationwide.

E-Ration services
India is one of the developing country.70% of the people are living below poverty line(BPL).For the
sake of the BPL people government have been implementing various developmental schemes .Most of the
schemes are being implemented through Public Distribution System.
In order to manage all the departmental activities it would be a good idea to computerize a gross root
level functionalities of Public Distribution System (PDS).In almost all villages we use to find fair price shops
(FPS).The PDS is being implemented through FPS only. Usually FPshops will be linked to civil supplies go
downs, sometimes one FPS is covering number of villages and some line. One village can have more than one
FPS. FPS usually maintains records about opening and closing balance of the stock of various commodities. FPS
dealers usually lift the monthly allotment from civil supplies goes down after getting the permission from MRO.
After lifting the stock they use to sell the stock to ration card holders as per the existing norms.
After completion of stipulated month FP shop dealers use to submit the stock report to MRO. Based on
these reports MRO uses to send reports to divisional level officer will seed the requirements to District
Authorities. So, it is a very cumbersome process to monitor all the tasks of each and every level. So it has been
decided to computerize the software module which would be very helpful to the district authorities as well as
FP shop dealers.
Existing System
• It is manual system.
• Complexity in Management of customers that were applying to the ration card .
• The existing system may not provide security to BPL families.
• Maintain MRO, Dealers , Customer details is risky tasks.
• This system is not providing secure registration and profile management of all the users properly.

The development of this new system contains the following activities, which try to automate the entire process
keeping in the view of database integration approach.
• Automates information related to Customer Card System.
• Avoid mismanagement (verify users profiles, accept, reject users).
• We can maintain all type of users details properly.
• Rich user interface.
